Had to make some crank handles for a work job tomorrow, and whilst waiting for weld to cool/paint to dry, mocked up the cage cross bar and forward bar to bulkhead. All just tywrapped in place. Anyway finished handles and off for a kip :)

The zip tie should hold!

Where I used plastic hydraulic pipe clamps for the steering column clamps (see project link below), they are not up to the job. I will be replacing them with alloy hydraulic pipe clamps:

not much of original tub left !!!!!

I assume the long diagonal lands next to front wishbone and will help stiffen the chassis?

I know it is 'only the profile' that needs to match but what % of this is 'Reliant' ? (NOT being critical of your approach , merely an observation!) and if it raises the 'profile' of the SS1 then bonus :D

Its a good point, and one people often fall foul of. Its a case of building to the regs Alan. Some stuff we cant touch, some can be chopped off or lost altogether.
For MUK Modified Production class, nothing can be removed from the chassis/unitary construction if moncoque between wheel centres. As scims have a prper seperate chassis, the tub can be heavily modified.

The chassis between wheel centres can be added to, and suspension pickups can be altered, but suspension 'type'must remain the same (no live axle to IRS swaps etc).

To be honest its a minefield! but hours spent pouring over the regs always bears fruit :D

As for how much is Reliant, thats where RG Road going classes come in, cars are warmed over with uprated brakes and shocks, but very little can be done to lighten the car or overcome some of the inherent road car compromises.

On the other hand Sports Libre class is pretty much anything goes

Choose your class, and build the car :)

Liked Alans point, us Compies forget its 'smoke and mirrors' from a non compies point of view.

When i did the compsec role, de-mystifying the subject was a constant battle

I suppose it's a bit like F1 exploring the untested to improve in every way possible which then trickles down to the standard cars eventually 👍👍good work !

Wouldnt compare a scim with F1, thats a stretch

But yes, much of what is being done currently with Scim compie cars, hasnt been done before, but i think thats good, competition improves the breed as the saying goes :D

please don't take my comment as a complaint, only observation .. .. .

i seem to remember reading about a 750 club 'car' that used the engine mounts from a Mini as 'suspension' and got away with it for the one or two seasons until they added a clause about 'xx inches travel'

so yes I can see where the (dare I say) loop-holes can be exploited!!!! F1 and the sodding huge fan back aft, or when skirts forst arrived.
or when group B rally went all out.

keep up the good work, I admire how much time you have comitted (or maybe you should be committed ? ) . . .. . .in a nice way

Defo didnt take it as a complaint Alan :)
750MC is a perfect example of re-appropriation of common parts, small reliant and then Fiat engjnes, cheap basic axles and brakes, attached to a lightweight box section chassis and GRP bodywork. With often less than 100hp, they lap at amazing speeds with times a Porsche couldnt get close to.
The engine mountings and rubber conveyor belting cut into strips have been used as springing mediums, Aĺlan Stanniforths Low Cost High Speed is a great read (along with Race and Rally Data Source book)

I love the designers 'work arounds' to the rules as much as i love the racing 8)
