Sabre Turbo racer: 'Light Sabre'

Post by CNHSS1 » Fri Jan 03, 2020 12:59 am

Brian Crouch came round tonight and we cracked on with front suspension fabrication. All the fabrications done, just an upper damper mount to be welded on but ive had to order as id run out of the ize to match other side.

Some nore spacers and 1/2" cap head bolts ordered.

Offside hub and upright to be fitted at the weekend and the car will roll again, and i can turn it around in the garage and start on rear suspension mods and trailing arm strengthening.

Thanks as ever to Brian, hes a good bloke, top banter and does his best to impart some of his massive engieering know how, cheers BC, youre agood egg 8) 8)

Lot of minor GRP damage from the 'brush' with the tyre wll after my Wiscombe off, but that can all wait.
Removed all wiring from rear end, removed rear ARB, and cleaned and sprayed trailing arm and diff cradle bolts, for removal later in the week 8) 8)

I reckon it’s psychology - get him to do the first one by hand, then “look how much quicker it is with a soft pad in a grinder..”

Good to see the progress. You're spurring me along, I really need to clear my workshop so I can get on with the mods on my SS1...

So we had the full Thursday night Team meeting in the Hughes Man Cave, myself and Crouch's Junior and Senior respectively.

Stripped rear suspension off, and removed diff cradle and diff. Rear trailing arms are already polybushed and strengthened, but as im changibg to rosejoints, seems a shame to butcher the arms, so am flogging the Sabre arms and will modify a spare pair i have courtesy of Darryl Crosby 8)

Next job is to split the rear panel from the tub. Theres only about 500mm still attached, needs a tickle with a multi tool and itll come free making access so much easier. The tub is bonded to the rear deck at the factory but the are seperate mouldings

Are you replicating Batmobile ones? Any thoughts on changing chassis mounts?
