First thing was to change the oil and filter and start the engine-wrong! All the engine oil deposited onto the drive!
After discussion on the Forum I decided to remove the oil cooler and sandwich plate, as the filter was not seating properly. refill oil and try to start engine -wrong no fuel getting to carb!
(I previously got it running by putting a fuel can on the roof and hand priming it, as the fuel tank had disintegrated, so I bought an alloy tank and connected it up).
I bought another fuel pump - wrong it leaked. I bought another still no fuel. More Forum discussion. Apparently it had the wrong fuel pump! Found another with a dog leg arm, yea- fuel. But now spark has done a bunk.
Traced a defective connection. After a few bangs and flames the engine fired up again, after about 3 years!
This highlighted a damaged exhaust manifold, so I have bought some from ebay and will collect on friday.
Since I bought the car 3 years ago the clutch was inoperative, so I replaced the master cylinder, and slave cylinder, but it wouldn't budge. After some advice from a friend I slackened the bell housing bolts and jacked the gearbox up, then wiggled it slightly. To my amazement this cured the sticking plate.
I have now driven the car up and down the drive. The first time it has moved under it's own power, for many many years.
Although there is loads more to do, a milestone has been reached.
Thanks for all the help and advice.
Nigel

That's a significant milestone, getting it moving under it's own power - well done! :D

This car is now for sale Pictures on RSSO and GT Facebook pages.
TN6 East Sussex. 1967 Se4a
Part restored. Complete car with bumpers hubcaps etc. Although some parts may need re-chroming.

I bought this car 3 years ago requiring a full resto.
I have been making progress slowly but I have now bought another car which has been restored, so this one has to go.
Work so far - replacing brake master cylinder, servo, rear slaves etc. Replaced clutch master and slave. Freed up seized clutch.
Replaced fuel tank with an alloy one.
Changed oil and filter and got engine running.
I am told that the engine is a 1972 GTE engine 3L.
It is marked as having a +30 re-bore and -20 big end and crank. I can say is that it has very good oil pressure.
I have hand sanded the body back to gel coat and kept a photographic record. It is hand painted for protection with boat hull paint, the intention being to respray it after MOT etc. It had no damage whatsoever.
I have been told that the chassis is good but I have found a small area at the front that needs repair.
It has been off the road for about 15 years, but now drives under it's own power. The intention was to get it ready for MOT and gradually bring it up to standard as a rolling resto.
Original wheels
Many new parts included and extra features like alloy rocker covers.
Difficult to value but PM for a viewing and any questions.
Thanks
Nigel.

Without pictures it's impossible to value accurately. If you know what you've spent on it, you know what you want - the first person to view will either snap your arm off or bid what he thinks it's worth.

Hi Jim
There are pictures earlier in the thread. Also on RSSO and GT Facebook pages. The paint looks nicer in the pics! It is only a hand-painted protective coat.
Thanks
Nigel

Sorry - pics weren't showing on my ultra slow wi-fi :-)

Looks like you've improved it tenfold since you've owned it - we know what you paid for it and roughly what you've spent on it, so I'd be one of those biting your arm off if you only want to recoup those costs :-)

Hi Jim.
It is a whole lot better than when I bought it! It owes me £2k plus a lot of my graft.
