Boot hinges are MG Midget/Healey Sprite. Come up on eBay every now and again. Not an easy job to replace.

That's an interesting car, the paint is obviously very tatty, and it's stood a long time, but there's also evidence in the underbonnet photos in particular that at one time it had a lot of care and attention.

As for the paint and body, I think the key thing is to get it as dry as possible before repainting it. It'll need all the existing paint rubbing down dry, and preferably the body kept in a warm place for a while before re-painting. If you do a search on here for "osmosis" and "microblistering" you should find loads of useful info.

If you're in Crowborough then you may be interested in the Sussex noggin & natter. Included amongst our members are Geoff who's a current Coupe owner (not the one above though), and Tony who used to own one. We'd be pleased to see you there! :)

I think it has a later engine with side dipstick and 38 DGAS. Obviously K&N filter and alloy rocker covers. I was told by the seller (Ducatti Dealer)that they bought a job lot of stuff including a bike they sold previously a Bond Bug and the GT. They allegedly started the engine and were told by a viewer that the chassis was good. Hope to meet you at the "Noggin".

Afraid I've no idea about boot hinges.
As I'll be needing one for the s6 project car I am currently measuring and drawing up for manufacture or rather prices for, so will drop on Scimweb for people once I have them

Hi Nigel,
I was going to bid on that car too as it looked fairly complete and as someone has mentioned, there are bits and pieces under the bonnet that suggest it's been loved in the past. I liked the vinyl roof too. However, I saw the yellow one and although more than twice the price it seemed a lot less work. We'll see!
Good luck Nige and keep us posted.
Cheers,
Rich

The engine bay doesn't look much worse than my GTC when it arrived ;)
It looks a good solid project, lots of work though!
Have fun - you will when it's finished.

Coupe on ebay - Now a Project

Post by NigelW » Wed Jun 10, 2015 12:02 pm

Those pics were about 2 years ago when the car was in lock up with no power or light. Everything was done was done by hand, including sanding off all the paint. The car was much worse than I thought, but seemed solid underneath. Everything else needed replacing or repairing. The seats weren't original and unusable. The vinyl roof was rotten. The clutch was seized (still is) and all the hydraulics gone. Brake master and servo also seized. These were all replaced (clutch slave was a nightmare to remove). Fuel tank disintegrated but with a remote tank the engine ran, so there was some hope. I hand painted the body which was in surprisingly good condition underneath with Jotun boat primer last year and is seems to have worked well. I recently moved and now have the car on site so hope to make further progress.
