Cheers Phil. There is a mistake though, I was wondering if anyone would spot it.

Yup....

I welded the nuts onto to the wrong side of the top plate and didn't notice and just carried on

I just need to drill another hole and weld a nut on to recover the situation

Weve all done stuff like that Steve. Shouldve seen me trying to work out angles and cuts for tube notcher on wishbones--- kept moving the tube around in my hands as i tried to work out the orientation, not sure if i look more like a majorette baton-twirler, or a bob sled driver 'visualising'the run before the start!

Making progress with the cage support brackets. My welding isn't very neat, but passes the hammer and jump test with flying colours.

Good work Steve.

When I did mine I welded the top plate on afterwards I made up the 3 piece section then tacked that on etc. This way you can fully weld inside first the angled plate to the cill. Due to the shape inside the weld flows well and I could get a good result. This allows welding both sides and makes stronger. Then I welded on the top plate.

Hope this helps

Cheers Ben, my plan is for these to sit on top of the sill and be open at each side. The mock up says this will work. However, I've made them too big so that I can trim them down if that doesn't work.

These are based on the measurements that Philip posted earlier in this thread.

The LHS one has now been modified

Defo be stronger if you make some triangle pieces and close it up at the ends...probably overkill though

If you do make a wedge shape box tack it up and then weld it at the bench before tacking and checking at the cill

Interested to see the engine mods and results

You need to grind through the galv and at least an inch around each aide of where the new weld will be. If the galv isnt cleaned off the welds will be horrible

Cheers Craig, I hope so.

And oh yes, lots more grindy grindy to be done on the sills before I wheel out the welder again.

I've got one side partially welded up, but ran out of mig wire so it'll have to wait until next weekend

Used the time to fit the tyres to the new wheels though. Very pleased with the result. 215 tyres that don't rub and don't stick out beyond the front arch.
These work out as the same rolling radius as 195/45/15, so the gearing from last season won't change, which was my main aim when choosing tyre size.

Got a bit more done. I still feel like I'm miles away from the finish line though...

Roll cage fitting is the next job, then on to making a bit more room inside the rear arches for the 215 tyres.
