Here’s another view.

They were made from a cheap pack of Aldi brackets, bent into shape. If I can find some stronger off cuts of metal I’ll remake them.

Corky's Scimitars (....currently sprint car fettling )

Edited to correct figures.

It's been on the rollers again today and we've gained a massive 5.3 BHP, so it's now reaching a whopping 134.3 BHP (up from 128.6) :cloud:

The bizarre thing is that the power and torque under 4000 rpm isn't affected, and it's only a bit down up to 5000 rpm. Then it all goes wrong at around 5557, and flat lines. This is why it feels great on the road, as I don't wind it up to the red line when I'm hooning about the countryside. You generally run out of road before you get to the limit.

I've obviously improved things by adjusting the cam timing, but the consensus is that the cam timing is still out. We could adjust it and probably get it bob on with a vernier pulley, but I don't have one, and to be perfectly honest I'm getting very p1553d off with the saga.

So, I've pulled it apart and put the original cam back in. It fired up straight away and I was able to adjust the ignition timing without any of the earlier problems. I've been out for a run and it does feel a little bit quicker, but it's so difficult to tell how much it has improved by driving it on the public road. I'm taking it for another power run on Thursday, so hopefully I'll have some better news. Third time lucky

If it makes over 170BHP I'll be happy.......

It does sound like cam timing. Similar to my DET when it jumped a tooth.

Cleaned up with new shells and rings. Just the head to do and then I'll have a usable spare engine.

Just debating whether to send the cam to Autosprint for a re-grind.

Silly not too IMHO - like replacing core plugs or helicoiling the studs while it’s apart?

It’s a choice between having this one ground, or finding a vernier pulley to get the most out of the twin spark cam I’ve already had Autosprinterised.

Or if anyone out there has a twin spark engine and fancies an Autosprint cam that was ground from a brand new cam, please drop me a PM and you can have it at less than cost.

Back on the dyno this morning. It was in good company alongside an Escort Cosworth rally car, Healey 3000 rally car and a Mk1 Golf GTi...

The only difference to the last run is that it now has the standard cam and I could get the ignition timing slap bang on 15' btdc.

It's not the result I was hoping for, but a reasonable BHP improvement non the less.

Peak BHP is at 6040rpm and comes in at 156.8 BHP
Torque peaks at 4253rpm and is 161.0 lb ft (no real difference here, just slightly higher up the rev range)

I have also had it weighed with and without driver.

Car 920KG (with hardtop and 1A tyres) + Driver 1020kg (No race suit or helmet, but a hearty breakfast).

So all things considered:- well used engine, standard turbo, standard cam, 10psi of boost with an intercooler. Circa 160BHP is probably about right.

I don't want to tweak the boost anymore, as I don't fancy changing another head gasket. In this spec, it'll probably be pretty good on handicap if I stick with 1A tyres (saving the 1Bs for the next power hike with the engine I'm building).

It does seem significantly lower than Ben's SS1 which went to 179bhp at Northampton.(Not sure what boost he's running though and what if any other spec differences there are)

So are you sticking with A's for Ty Croes :?:

We’re only 22 BHP apart, so it’s not a massive amount. I believe Ben’s car has an aftermarket cam and is running higher boost. Which would easily account for the difference.

I’m taking 1Bs with me to Anglesey, but will start on 1As to see where we are. If CM only count the first three runs, I may do a 4th on 1Bs for a free comparison.

I'm not sure Ben knew what boost he was running last time we spoke

The run on B's WILL count for SSSC don't forget and will mean you can't move back to A's in the SSSC  :w

I can’t see why I couldn’t elect for it not to count as a championship run. After all, I could choose to just pack up after three runs.
