Nice touch with the speedo cable Steve :) :)
(Wish I'd should have thought of that, but can still make that mod if necessary).

Thanks Trevor. I had the same problem on the Sabre, but decided to run the speedo cable under the carpet. I’m hoping this will be a better solution.

The Lotus seat arrived......

Image

....and it fits the space really well. Trouble is, I just think it's too small for me. The MR2 seat feels like a better solution, as it has a height adjuster and it reclines. Meaning that I can get properly comfortable, and it'll adjust easily for other drivers. Not only that, but it'll take the seatbelt clip as per the original. We're still heading towards RG with this car for 2018.

So we're going with this:-

Image

It's not yet bolted in. I need to secure some eye bolts to the chassis for the harness, then I can get it bolted down.

If anyone wants a Lotus Elise seat for £100, drop me a PM. They're about £250+ each on eBay... form an orderly queue

Not much has progressed on the car over the last couple of weeks.

I finally got the MR2 seat rails trimmed and drilled to fit the new cross-members. Whilst I was at it I created a recess in the square tube so that the bolts were not exposed below the rails. The seat is now bolted into place, and I'm pleased to say the MR2 seat is pretty much perfect. The main benefit is that the seat base raises and lowers, which will be handy when changing between shorter and taller drivers.

Socket sized hole to allow access to the recessed seat bolt. The steel is thicker than the U section that Reliant used, so this seemed sensible. It'll be sealed with a grommet eventually.

M8 mounting bolts secured in the MR2 seat rails.

In place

Doesn't touch the door. I was worried it may be too wide.

Next up. I fitted the rear end of the cage, and mocked up the fuel tank. (I need to get the filler hose a touch higher)

Filled the gaps around the back stays by taping card to the underside of the parcel shelf and filling the gaps with chopped strand.

That's it for now. I may yet have a fuel tank made rather than using this one, still undecided........

It was either going to be blue or white  It just so happened that RR had a set of shiny blue panels available.

Only panels with patina for my car. Currently storing empty boxes on it.

Mr Cork is again making a shiny race car that will be too nice to abuse.

I'm glad to see them being put on something though. No use in my loft were they.

Slow progress, but getting things done. The back end is now rebuilt and the small tank installed. I've yet to fit the swirl pot as I'm having thoughts of a custom tank

I've fitted the glass to the hard top and fitted the front wings and new indicators and wiring. I also had to fit the heater blower hose flange to the new wing and fit a new length of flexi hose (100mm ducting from screw fix..).

Spot the new LED number plate lamps, same as I fitted to the Sabre.

I now need to remove this trim piece from the hard topand fit something that'll push over and cover the holes.

Next steps will be fitting and building up the doors, fitting an MR2 seat to the passenger side, fitting the intercooler, taking it for a custom exhaust......

Great work, Steve...
Thanks Geoff.

I've now got both doors on, and have almost finished building them up. The locking mechanisms are right PITA, it took me 8 hrs to hang two doors, fit them out and get the locks and catches functioning correctly. Just got the quarter lights and glass to fit when the paint dries :D .

Image
Image

The inside of the doors look like this, so unless modified, they need an early style door card.

Image

The door cards I have look this (later type). They have been butchered by a PO to allow access to the door locking mechanisms. I could probably make them look a bit nicer, but if anyone has any better ones going spare, please give me a shout.

Knock up some infill panels akin to the earlier type to fill the recess? Maybe a nice red to match the seats?
