That’s the cover I want, Focus one would look rubbish..

As the Mustang boxes are over £2k second hand, I shall be trying a MX5 6 speed which shares the bolt pattern

Mx5 or rx8. If rx8 I understand the 5 speed is the better box. ?

I think the Mx5 6 speed is the same as the RX8 box - Aisin AZ6 (is200, s15, gt86/brz)?

Depending on engine torque, diff ratio and wheel/tyre sizes, some people use the 6 speed as a 5 speed box and ignore first gear.

Hmm that seems a good idea, giving you a longer 'first use' gear ?

Yes, it's basically the same but the front casting is different. I have an MX5 6 speed gearbox in mine.

The MX5 has the starter motor on the left, the RX8 has it on the right, if you are standing at the front of the car and looking at it.

Also, the MX5 gearbox has a speed sensor, which is electronic in the 6 speed but the mechanical one from the 5 speed fits. People tell me the RX8 gearbox does not have a speed sensor at all.

Sorry for the late reply, I’m not getting notifications anymore!?

My descision to go with the 6 speed rather than the 5 is based on the final drive used in the MX5, the 5 speed car uses a 4.1 and the 6 uses a 3.7 which is closest to the ratio in the Coupe.. If it’s wrong I’ll swap it, or fit the T5 I have sat on the shelf

The gearbox arrived today, bolts up as it should and the gear lever couldn’t be better placed! All good so far 8)

looks great. Last year I also bought a rx8 5 speed and adaptor plate to put behind the essex but the omega 3.2 made that redundant !

I’m sure you’re not too concerned about that now!!

I’m putting an RX8 box in my road GTE, so I’ll find out all about that then..

So as I wait for the ECU and harness, I have to find a home for the intercooler.. I want to get it in a good position without ruining the front of the car! After some welcome advice from CNH, I’ve decided to open up the current number plate recess and make a short section of ducting opening up to the intercooler. It’s actually the Ecoboost Mustang intercooler and the inlet and outlet drop nicely each side of the chassis legs!
