Bugger Bugger Bugger. So frustrated for you Paul. I'd like to offer help but not sure what i can other than moral support. I still have that hydraulic clutch bellhousing for the Type 5 gearbox ? Its shallower than a normal bellhousing. It came with the GBH gearbox you sold me but I've never used it ? You can have the use of that immediately if needs be. All you need is a type 5 ?

You can get a T5 to Essxex bell housing from Ric Wood or Burtons (which I think is a Ric Wood one anyway).

Danny & I have a pair of Ric Wood heads that were on the Marcos. We replaced them as there was some valve seat recession on the exhaust valves. We thought we had hardend valve seats, so we weren't running additive. But they aren't hardend, as there is too much risk of the seats dropping out at heat temperature & revs, we run Millers CVL now. The engine was still making good power with the old heads, I can't say I've noticed too much difference. I think we have a set of roller-rockers to go with the heads, but we do need to sort valve springs, caps & collets.

Sorry to hear of your woes, but I can only assume you are thinking of some racing if you're going back to an Essex?

Yes the gearbox shouldn’t be an issue and the heads sound perfect, I was giving Danny a ring tomorrow anyway.

Yes I want to do some swinging sixties races again and not have the general restrictions that come with the engine change. The car is still set up for racing anyway.

That's a shame as this was an awesome car.
I think TVR went a step too far in deciding to produce their own bespoke engines and gearboxes. Made some awesome cars but the reliability seems to have been awful.
One thing you could compete in with an engine swap would be Classic & Retro Time Attack ?

It's a huge shame, but I did it and it's time to move on and make the car more versatile. There are plenty of places to use the car with an engine swap, but it seems to prevent me from doing the things I want to do.

I have a decent engine coming (attached to a 5a  ) and the plan is to swap to that in the short term and build a full race Essex over the winter.

the idea is to be speedy in getting it back out there, probably not that speedy performance wise

But strangely could be a lot better on handicap...

Cheers Craig, I'll get there one day

LRP 335E Sprint Coupe

Ok, so today’s acquisition turned out to be more of a 90% completed upgrade/restoration than an engine donor to be sorted at a later date... This causes a dilemma, as the car is pretty much a good road going spec sprint car as it stands, so rather than take the engine out and do a temporary fix to get the Coupe out, a few weeks will see this ready to go in a similar spec to my first sprint car...

Ha!

Don't get carried away with it then, I know what you're like, you'll have the suspension off to be shot blast & powder coated before you enter an event!
