Going to be a wet one, but no snow forecast in Darlington anymore...

So, two three rounds of the Classic Marques championship down and I haven’t done 1 lap!!

Croft was called off due to the heavy rain but that same rain had got into my electrics causing all manner of issues with the running of the engine, so I didn’t even get to splash around with everyone else!

So onto Anglesey with a running car and a huge amount of optimism and excitement!!

The car started on the button and drove around to scrutineering with no issues. All good there and back to the garage to wait for first practice.. The call came and I made my way to the pit lane with a strange rattle developing.. The rattle didn’t sound too bad and more of an exhaust catching type of noise rather than anything sinister.. I considered going back to the pits but figured I can go straight into the parc ferme area if there was a problem off the start. The light went green and I tentatively  floored the throttle which made the rattle into a very sinister sound, so I immediately turned left instead of right and hit the kill switch :(

The car wouldn’t turn over and after a push back to the pits it seemed terminal.. The car was pushed to the back of the garage and I decided to take advantage of the hotel and have a family day out on Anglesey... I can highly recommend Foal Farm
Here’s some nice scenery..

Ok so after a quick investigation something is not right in the bottom end which can only have happened when the water ingress caused the rough running at Croft as it was fine on the rolling road. So, what to do??? Well after some thought I’ve had enough of the Speed Six.. nice idea, but I just don’t trust it anymore and I have no desire to rebuild it again.

So it’s coming out and I need a decent Essex ASAP so I can get it in and get out again. I need a bell housing to mate up to the T5 and I’ll have to see how far back it will go.

Anybody know of a high spec engine for sale??

So it wasn't just an engine mount failure afterall Paul :?:

Gutted for you, as we all were on Saturday when you had to pull out.

John Louch may be a useful person to have a chat with about an engine :?:

Oh what a bummer.
If you're going to change to V6 would a 2,9 not be legal?
Much easier to tune than an Essex, mine is only a 12-valve and produces 210 bhp, a Cosworth would go over 300 easily

John’s given me a lead on one which I’m going to follow up already.. Wishful thinking re the engine mount I’m afraid

It has to be an Essex Chris, I’ve ruled myself out of racing and most of the hill climb championships with the engine change.

I’ve already got one of their heads, couldn’t stretch to an engine! Having said that, I’m happy the bottom end was spot on when it was built so no idea what’s gone wrong.

The thought of doing another engine conversion and all the bespoke work involved fills me with dread  And as I said above, it just so restrictive as to what you can do with the car.
