I've seen these threads go off the rails and end up in a cloud of steam before!

Did someone mention stoker? Steve Sims and Gillsfan will be along in a minute :-)

just to update this thread - Diseasels clutch expired so it's sat in the workshop awaiting repairs. It's a DMF with a concentric slave, so could be some time (and expense) until it gets to the top of the list :-(

on the plus side, it will give me the excuse to rewire it (and tidy up the interior and engine bay) that I needed.

I love this thread! I have bought (today) an oil burner to go into my se6a. I am a big fan of the simple older non electronic diesels, and have also converted our volvo and landrover to diesel, and run them on waste vegetabl oil. The best engines for veg oil are the old Mercedes with in line Bosch pump, as are lubricated by the engine oil. The engine I have is a 2.9 turbo, and with a bit of tweaking should go as well, if not better than the Essex.my 50 year old landrover is superb, the 5 pot diesel is wasted in it really, but it pulls better than the Isuzu 2.8 turbo I had in it previously, and sounds amazing!

Diesel SE5A

So the plan originally was to pull the engine and box to replace the clutch over winter 16/17. That had to slip 12 months when Sarah became ill. I have bought the clutch kit but everyone says that the concentric slave will need replacing at the same time. With the addition of a lot of underbonnet tidying, wiring, interior and paint, it is quite a big list :-)

So, this weekend I managed to get to the workshop (Sarah starts another round of chemo tomorrow, so opportunities to play with cars will become scarce again - coupled with an imminent house move  :-))

First on the list was the snapped rear hatch hinge. I've read lots of accounts regarding upside down fibreglassing and decided (as it needs paint anyway) to attack it from the outside

Luckily, an SS1 bonnet bracing bar is the correct dia :-)

So, a blob of P40 and it's back in

Hmmm, lots of piccies and little info :) They are some great looking inlet manifolds, that will look properly nice under the Scimitar bonnet :)
