They were new pre event Craig but maybe it was damaged already and I didn't notice or we cracked it on Sunday when we removed the plugs after the car cut out on track (earth feed to ignition relay broken)

Ironically we had a misfire at Debden from a cracked plug too, again they were brand new

To be fair, modern plugs, or at least modern (proper) ignition systems do seem intolerant of plugs. I've never had any joy cleaning plugs, whereas back in the day you could wire brush them, wipe them on your Jean's and they'd run lovely again

No they were a new set.

I broke one today by using too short an extension bar. As you know the plugs are deep in the head and I must have put some lateral force on the plug. The ceramic cracked big style

Update.

Car went to the rolling road today and NO misfire :) Must have been that plug

On the downside looking at the curves it looks like the oil leak from the rear crank seal has contaminated the clutch.

So it will be engine out after Harewood and new clutch....paddle or uprated standard :?: :w

Since the rolling road Josh kindly took out the engine and gearbox.

New clutch fitted, new gearbox seals and exhaust manifold cracks repaired.

Just fitted new brake pads and plan to check rear shoes before Loton in 2 weeks.

Need to knock up a new bracing bracket which fits between the engine block and the turbo to prevent stress on the manifold.

Idle speed is a little high at the moment at about 1500rpm

Hi steve, just for info precision clutches in Somerset make new clutch plates and brakes using whatever material or type (eg paddle) you want. And cheap. James put me onto them. New uprated clutch plate was £70 inc vat and delivered.

Is we sideways yet...

Cheers Mikey; went for an Exedy stage 2 paddle clutch in the end. Change seems ok and it was actually a paddle clutch already fitted so should be much the same as before the swap

We have decided to still go to Harewood following a few issues at Curbs.

1. Sump oil leak continues but manageable we hope.
2. Issue with gear selection (apart from reverse) was due to loose clutch cable now sorted.
3. We have no reverse gear; selector is likely culprit so engine out and new box needs fitting over the winter.
4. Coolant loss seems to be down to failing/ ultimately exploding expansion cap; now replaced with new so hopefully ok.
