Never try and argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you based on experience.

551 A race oddity

Post by BigBobPilot » Sun Apr 22, 2018 9:52 pm

I’ve only managed to get on to the SS1 again today really. Saturday was digging out the Marcos 3-litre I share with Iain Daniels, for pre-race check & a couple of little mods. We are racing it on 5th May at the same meeting I had been hoping to get the SS1 to.

Here are 3 stages of the turbo actuator bracket. The card one didn’t allow me to check the fit, so before going to 3mm steel, I made a thin aluminium part, as I could cut it with snips & fit it to the turbo, with the actuator just squeezing in.

After previously priming both front & the rear RH wings, they all needed a little filling & flatting, with some GRP work, so I’ve done that, along with the prep of the LH rear wing. All are now primed, the fronts are laqured, but the LT rear needs some more filler on the top extended face, The RH wing got blown over so needs more effort before lacquering.

I did a lot of sanding on the air-damn mould I made about a year ago. I’d filled some holes with flow-coat & flatted it back twice, than I made a third go with flow-coat, but this one didn’t want to sand and just clogged the paper, do it took ages. It needs flatting with some finer paper, then I’ll get on to polishing it up ready to make up a part. Here’s the whole lot.
