That was a thought Phil, but they’re badly seat belt damaged in the usual place :(
One thought was to cut the top off and make a hard board panel for the bottom. Sabre style.

Door frames and glass fitted. I did this against the hardtop as it's a better reference to adjust to than a hood.

Next job was fitting the soft top studs and backing plates to the deck, so I could fit the hood.

And then I remembered I had this :-

Previously fitted with three screws

I'd like to make it a bit more secure than that, as I don't want it flying off along the back straight at Anglesey.

Drilling this nicely painted boot lid is making me very nervous :barf:

A good PU panel adhesive. It'll never come off again without taking one side of the paint with it!

I recommend "Wayside adhesives" products fyi.

Personally I'd say those GL frames are a tad high, but if the hood fits without the fabric being munched then all's ok I suppose.

Looking better by the day 8)

Cheers Phil. The frames on the passenger side is as low as it'll go, and the one on the driver's side is packed by about 3mm. The glass sits perfectly within the hardtop and the hood.

It looks like the top of the quarter light should sit flush with the recess at the tip of the screen surround, but there was no way I could achieve that. Furthermore, if I did, the glass wouldn't meet the edge of the hard/soft tops.

I think one of previous cars was the same, but I'm struggling to find a definitive photo.

Forgot to say, I've got some Tiger Seal. I was thinking of using that, then drilling through from underneath to add some securing screws.

Tiger seal will do it, or fit rivnuts into spoiler and use machine screws in through bootlid

this race car is getting nicer and nicer every day, better paint job than what our 'road car' has! ! !
are you STILL sure you are going to hammer it around a track, if not then it should fetch a decent price when you come to sell it

Thanks for the comments fellas. Yes it will still be driven like I stole it. I didn’t let the shinyness of the Sabre hold me back the last two seasons :D

The spoiler is MK2 Sabre I believe. I thought GW had some?

Access panel in the boot liner made, painted and fitted. Didn't take a photo of the final fit, but you get the idea...?

Image
Image

Next something to fill the big gap in the front of the engine bay.

Image
Image

And talking of gaps..... the spoiler's centre mounting point is about 20mm away from the boot lid.

Image

Just need to work out how to un-warp the boot spoiler :(
Most of the other panels needed a bit of hot air gun treatment to get them back into shape (They'd been sitting in RRs loft for five years or so), but they were easy to do as they're so thin. This one will take some thinking about, so I don't crack either the paint or the GRP.
