If you follow the dizzy inserting procedure to the letter, and check that the rotor arm is pointing towards the cylinder no.1 lead. It should start instantly.

I usually leave the securing bolt hand tight, so I can fiddle with the timing once it's running.

Sounds like you're very close !

Well done :D

Dunno whos more offended me or Corky

Personally I wouldn't bother, there will always be annoil.mist on internals, mainly from idling when the turbo seals aren't as fully pressurised as they could be, when giving it the beans it will disappear anyway.

If it's to make the outside of the engine loom prettier, I'm definitely not your guy, but Corky or one of the other Cheshire Polishing Brigade will be ;-)
Just seen this...... :w

Possibly gummed up injectors and/or plugs if the last turbo was oiling the inlet tract :D How long since it last ran?

not sure when it was last run...i guess two years...i was tempted to dismantle the inlet side and soak the injectors in some cleaner... once i have checked the timing\dizzy first..

I'd avoid doing that if you can..... A right PITA when the engine is on the bench let alone in the car. Just try and get it running and put a cleaning aditive into the fuel if you think it needs it.

Morning sir - okay will do - I was ready to throw in the towel and get the car to my mechanic- but as i am (hopefully) so close - it would feel good to get it going under my own steam... i will be heading out to the garage in an hour- so will report back later.

:D well it's alive!!! Badly misfiring - when pulling the leads from the dizzy - each one changed the note of the engine - so I have done something right ! At rough idle - should the turbine be spinning or not? Mine was sometimes moving - but when I applied a little throttle it did spin ok ....will check the plugs now and post a video later

How can you see if the turbo is spinning? Have you got the hose from the MAF disconnected?

It will run very rough if that's not in place.

ah..that may explain it...i had the MAF connected but not the hose...may explain the video below then.. ...lots of un-burnt fuel..

will pick it up next weekend ..but happy non the less :D if the symptoms in the video are due to the MAF - then i am looking forward to next weekend.

thank you all for helping me getting this far!!

All those hoses need to be connected. That includes the one to the rocker cover. Air leaks in these are often discovered when a Ti starts to run a bit rough.

Well done getting it running though :hurrah: 8)
