SE5/5a Register

Post by Elizabeth's dad » Mon Jun 07, 2010 4:28 pm

I am the SE5/5A registrar and hold the club records for the 5/5A.

So if you have a 5 or 5a GTE that is not currently on the register, or if you have just bought a car, or if you go to view one (even if it's a pile of bits, even a chassis plate and a V5) please make a note and get in touch with me via this message board or on SE5.registrar@rssoc.co.uk

Matt Greenly has passed on the format he uses to request information for the Coupe register and I will follow the same requirements, so ideally I need:

Registration

Chassis Number

Engine Number

Body colour

Year of manufacture

Any modifications?
(different wheels, sunroof, audio upgrades, different engine etc, etc)

or any stories about your car?

If you can only get chassis and reg numbers, then please still let me know, and i'm not just interested in club members cars, ANY SE5 or 5a please!

If you get a photo of the car, please pass that on too so I can add a photo to the record.

Thanks

Jim Pace

On the off-chance it's still alive, is CYB 435 J registered? It was a silver-blue SE5 I owned from '71 to '75 or thereabouts and sold it to a farmer in Suffolk. It was pretty well worn out by the time I got rid of it with around 170k miles on the clock, but it never once let me down and taught me how to four-wheel-drift! I remember one night getting from the tolls on the Severn Bridge to Lyonshall in Herefordshire, which I seem to remember was 69 miles, in 59 minutes all on A roads. Much too scared to do that now!

not on the road since 1991 I'm afraid

The vehicle details for CYB 435J are:

Date of Liability 01 03 1991
Date of First Registration 19 11 1970
Year of Manufacture Not Available
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 2994CC
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type Petrol
Export Marker Not Applicable
Vehicle Status Unlicensed
Vehicle Colour BLUE

is it worth having a general section for "where is it now" mods?

Thanks for the sad news Jim. It did well to last until 1991 - I hope it died peacefully in its garage!!

Welcome Dan; last registered 1991 or 1992 apparently and red. Why not start a restoration thread; got any pics? Have you joined the RSSOC yet? :D

We recently had a discussion about JWR 28J, so would be interesting to see 27J, 28 was originally an SE5 but had had some cosmetic work by one of it's owners to bring it more in line externally with the 5a. I believe 28J is still on the market, although that hasn't been confirmed for some time, as a full restoration job also.

Create a project thread and feel free to ask on the forums about anything you need help with - that's what we are here for.

I've been away and have just caught up with this. As far as the register is concerned, I can tell you if the car is on it, but that's about it because as i understand it the Data Protection Act prevents me telling any more. It's worth checking the DVLA on line enquiry service if you want to find out if a car still exists (as t'other Jim did on this thread).

What has become clear since taking over the register is that a lot of cars are on it, but may not have been updated when ownership has changed, so if anyone out there has recently acquired a car, please send me the details even if you know it is already registered.

JWR27J is on the register.

CYB435J isn't.

One of the pleasures of the registrar role is finding cars 'new' to the register and communication with owners, while it is also sad when a once loved car is no longer around or not on the register.

A thread for 'where is it now' and perhaps 'where has it been' for people seeking more info about the history of their car would interest me, I'd like to know more about the original owner of my own car.

Jim

Jim,

This one is probably on the register but it has changed location fairly drastically so I thought I would update the entry.

Registration # OYS673M ( UK registration) The car is now in Tennessee on a Tennessee antique plate AA88695
Chassis # 93X3624
Engine# SC7242
Color Green. Has been red and, originally, yellow
year of manufacture Probably 1973. First registered 18/01/1974

The tale of getting it to Tennessee is long, involved and not yet finished. I'll send a little more info when the saga is over. It is here and running but we have a little more yet to do to cope ith the worst of the summer heat.

Thanks John, It isn't on the register, so one more car closer to complete records. let me have the story sometime, it might make interesting reading for SLICE (it's going to be difficult coming up with something worth reading for every issue on my own!).

Jim I'm with you on this. I do enjoy finding a "lost" car and adding it to the register, there aren't many GTC's to add, which makes it feel like quite an accomplishment. A "where are they now" section would be great. Perhaps split into models to make searching easier !

And why not have it in the members only section to enourage more users to join the club ?

Jim,

Regarding the Scimitar we moved to Tennessee, I will put together a story with some pictures as soon as we reachsome sort of an end to the saga. I think we're getting close but I still have to complete some bodywork following a trailering accident involving AAA just 13 miles into it's US career and arrive at a satisfacory conclusion to damage incurred in the docks. ( That's two insurance claims in 13 miles!)

Full details and sory soon,

John

Hi Jim

I am now the proud owner of a GTE SE5a and a new forum member. The car details are as follows:

Registration XAB 400M

Chassis Number 933314

Engine Number SC7059

Body colour BLUE

Year of manufacture 1973

Any modifications? EVERYTHING APPEARS ORIGINAL! (apart from new water pump, petrol pump, servo, coil and points of course)

From the check that I ran, I am the 9th owner and have evidence, i.e. old MOTs from '88, that show her to have a genuine mileage of 55,805.

She now lives in West Sussex, will be a regular visitor to Goodwood Circuit and I'm looking forward to many miles of happy grand touring!

Best wishes

Stuart
