Need documentation on a SE5

Hello,

I own a Reliant Scimitar Overdrive in France. However, the car is in bad conditions, I got it from the previous English owner who bring it to France 40 years ago.
The car (see pictures attached) is not running and I would like to restore it but I don’t have the logbook, the V5C or anything like that. Prior to restoring it I need to get a french registration. To do so, I have to get a new registration certificate from England.

To get it, I am looking for old documentation, the chassis number of the vehicule is : 931805 and the engine number is : 905550

Do you have any guess on how I could get documentation on that car ?

I fear you will have problems..

The car has (especially if it’s been in France for 40 years) been lost off the UK system, so very little chance of getting a replacement certificate. If one is applied for, there’s a fair chance it will need to be inspected (to prove it exists) - in the UK.

Engine number will be SC5550 by the way.

I have an e-mail from Regis, I will reply later but am doing research 8)
I am intrigued by the form V765 which I hadn't heard of but which contains this paragraph ...

If the SE5/a registrar can issue a certificate of manufacture date it seems it might be possible to have a new V5 with an age-related number?

If that doesn't work, I think I can find some paperwork to tackle it from the french end, including of course the notorious certificate de conformité.

You haven’t lost the number though, it’s just not on the computer. To put it back on the computer, it needs to be inspected, which means it needs to be in UK. If you’re asking for an age related plate due to lost reg, it will definitely need to be inspected.

I have a 5a that was registered 1st April 1973.
It is chassis # 1769, so is 36 cars before LOU.
It`s reg is DEE, there seems to be a theme to these cars? :lol:

Interesting that the "only" thing missing is the DVLA file on the car, as you already have the original Reg. No.
I believe the Club could confirm the chassis number is genuine and what its age is, which I think would go a long way to satisfying the DVLA; definitely worth a try, even if you find they require more information, then at least you'll know what to supply next. I think it will require a visit from a Club Rep. to see the car, though.
The Club was very supportive (thanks everyone) when I wanted to retrieve the original Reg. No. on the Sabre Six.

Yes, I have said much the same to Regis.
And the club representative who visits the car doesn't have to be the one who certifies the date of manufacture.
I am only 150 km from him so could easily do it :)

The point everyone seems to be missing, is that the car will need to be in UK as the DVLA will want to inspect it. They’re quite hot on cars suddenly appearing out of garages after 40 years that don’t require an MOT :D

You can’t try a V765 if you don’t have a V5C in the first place - club letter or otherwise.

I’ll refer to my first comment - expect DVLA will need to inspect the car, in the UK, before they’ll even consider issuing a V5C.

I don't mean to highjack this thread, but I have a slightly similar situation - although the vehicle is in the UK:

The only vehicle inspections I have ever had done are MOT tests, so can anyone tell me how the DVLA inspect vehicles now that they no longer have local offices? Do they send someone out or does the owner have to take the vehicle to a nominated garage or HGV inspection centre, for example? Surely the vehicle does not have to go all the way to Swansea (although I would not put that past our increasingly idiotic and illogical authorities).

I believe they’ve subcontracted it out to an external inspection company who come out?

I hadn't commented here yet as I haven't got a recent result, but here's my experiences from some time ago and a current one still underway.

I had to do the first register on my Cox gtm as it was the works race car up until my ownership. Took it to Luton DVLA and guy literally looked out the window at it and then handed me the registration, numbers etc!

My Austin Healey was bought in the isle of man on one of my race fortnights and on returning to the UK I had a real fight with the AH club and DVLA who both said it had been lost years ago as it was the works rally car and they would have known where it was. Eventually got previous owner (a certain Mr Mansell) who had put IOM plates on it to confirm it was indeed what it was and on inspection in Reading (tyre kicking this time) the car got it's original number back!

Currently I'm getting a period registration for a Fordson N type from 1938 that has never been registered. At this moment, it looks like DVLA are accepting photos and confirmation from the club records that it is what we say it is without inspection. I'll keep you posted, but then agri vehicles may be treated differently.

I think what I'm trying to say is.....You (and the DVLA officlals) don't really know what the DVLA require until you go through the motions!

Within the last year an Israeli built Sabra has been successfully registered in the UK with an age related number plate. The car had been imported from Belgium about 30 years ago and left to languish in a garage. The car's chassis number was known but it otherwise had no paperwork and no evidence that it had ever been registered in Belgium or anywhere else. The present owner since 2015 has completed its restoration and, with a good bit of to-ing and fro-ing with the DVLA, including the submission of a letter from the Club confirming its authenticity, its registration application was successful. There was no DVLA inspection.
