engine number identification : advice

Hi,

I 've seen lack of compression on my engine so I need to pull out it the car. I've read the engine number ...and I was astonished by the result: XTEH16F572.
If I check the number on burton website , the short engine was built in 1999 (in South africa?) . I 've lot of bills from the previous owner but not before. My early se5 is 50 years old .
Does anyone could have an explanation or an idea?

either Burtons are wrong
or someone swapped the engine

all scimitar v6 engines start SC.....

That number doesn't look anything like the format of the Ford engine numbers according to Burton's site? If it was an August 1999 built Ford engine (fitted to a Ford car) then they suggest that the number would be XT12345 (where XT12345 is the same as the last part of the VIN). Your number seems to be a more random mix of numbers and letters. Where was it located. are you sure it is the engine number?
I'd agree with scimmy_man that original Scimitar engines were SCnnnnn

Samcor built Essex engines between 1982 and 2000 so it’s not much of a surprise to find a few in UK - normally the later 3.4 or the fuel injected 3.0.

Hello,

Posting the photo for Mimic.
We will see if a plate was placed over the original number. It looks like a non original number.
Location : at the top edge of the bloc on the gearbox side, like our other Essex bloc

Yes, I agree - could it be an engine reconditioner's number?

Pretty sure I’ve seen pictures of SA engines with that type of plate.

My engine isn't original anymore.. The SC is not there. I got a Capri or Granada Engine beginning with Ford numbers. (unless very late 5a s had Ford numbers, but even 6 and 6as had SC Essex).
Mine is TR03519 HYB (Essex 3 Liter is HY engine type)

I guess an engine rebuilder would reuse the Engine number? So I'd double the SA thoughts...

Hard to find a "matching number " reliant scimitar :lol: (... that just a "porsche" owner preoccupation!).
After clean up my engine, the original number were deleted by a grinder machine.
The only information I've read : it were rebored + 0,30" (written near one of cylinder rank)

The reason that I am spending loads on rebuilding the engine in my repurchased 6a is that it is the original. Even though I purchased a working replacement, there is something satisfying that all bigger parts of the car are kept original. I'm sure there are still lots of other owners who have done the same.
