Two queries: gearbox and starter nut

Post by ScimiTom » Sat Aug 18, 2018 8:15 pm

Am I right in thinking there should be some kind of cover/gasket on the end of the gearbox housing? Is it available on its own? Don't really want road dirt getting in there...

Also, can anyone tell me what size of nut should be used at the starter solenoid connection which runs to the coil? The thread seems to be damaged on mine, as none would fit quite right.

There's a steel cover plate (no 6 in the following drawing from the Reliant/GW online parts list). They often seem to be lost.

The covers are easy to make out of sheet aluminium. Just make sure you put a little swage in the centre bottom to allow any oil or debris to escape.

No immediate idea about the nut size. However, I'll be able to measure it next week if no-one comes up with the answer in the meantime. I might even have a spare.

I made my cover a couple of years back out of polycarbonate and seems to be working okay too. If it's any use I think I still have the template file that I used to machine it.

Different starter to mine so can't help with the nut.
