lower wishbone remplacement SE5

Post by Mimic » Tue Jul 24, 2018 5:36 pm

Hi,

I am going to renew the front suspension and steering on my early SE5. I need to change the lower wishbone bracket. I was a little bit pressed, so I bought reinforced se6 bracket. I haven't seen the bolts were not in the middle on the bracket . I think It 'll be affect the geometry if I fit these ones. Your help / experience are welcomed to give me the best solution.

NB:I dont' knew the difference between the SE5 et SE6 bracket ...so I bought 4 L/H brackets. Do you think I could make 2 new holes or it's better to order 2 R/H new ones?
Thanks for your help.

SE6 brackets will alter the geometry. Send them back and order SE5a brackets.

On left side I have 2 sort of bracket. Have you a picture of the good ones on a SE5 ?
Does exist reinforced SE5 bracket with symmetrical holes?

I’m not sure if you can still get SE5 brackets - SE5a have a change to the roll centre (the hole is at a different height). The studs on 5/5a are central.

I have a 4A and the brackets are slightly different from the 5A brackets - the brackets are fitted in a recess in the chassis. The difference between them and the 5A bracket is however only slightly different so I think I could use 5A brackets without any problems - the 6 brackets being offset are not suitable however so don't use them - as Jim says send the offset bracket back and ask for 5A ones.

Here’s a pic of the 5 and the 5a brackets side by side. I fitted the much stronger 5a brackets to my 5 (SAR) even though you can see the hole in the 5a bracket is a little lower.

The effect on the geo is minimal and can be compensated for by other adjustments. All the geo measurements on SAR are within tolerance
