How do you retro fit Rear Seatbelts to an SE5 ?

Post by 1969SE5 » Tue Mar 20, 2018 12:23 pm

think i will stick with a lap belt, with the bracing off the later cars, once i can get some used or fabricate some.

This is where the idea for a bar behind the seats came from, I fitted this to my Landy to fit some proper seatbelts..

How do you retro fit Rear Seatbelts to an SE5 ?

Post by scimjim » Tue Mar 20, 2018 9:50 pm

I fitted similar down both sides in my Def 90 to secure 4 point harnesses to the side facing seats - the kids loved them :-)

The problem in a 5/5a is the lack of anywhere high enough to give the correct angles over the shoulder, coupled with the lack of any lateral guide apart from the passengers shoulder.

You’d probably end up with the top mount being suspended high enough to be visible through the window.. I’m definitely having a go so we’ll see

There are also load spreader plates at the forward ends (where it sandwiches GRP between the brackets and seat belts). Being so exposed, lots of people make replacements from SS.

Advice where rear Seatbelt mounting brackets fit SE5

Post by 1969SE5 » Wed Mar 28, 2018 11:55 pm

Right, daft question time..... How do these mount, had a look on the car and they appear to lend themselves to the longer ones to the outer (sill) side, and going to the side of the rear seat tub. And the shorter ones do the inner, but going to the bottom of the rear seat tub ?? Is that correct ? Obviously I have no holes to work to, as not fitted previously. All help gratefully received, as ever.

Pretty sure they both mount on the side of the seat tub.
