Se5 Door Card Differences

Post by scimjim » Sun Aug 09, 2015 10:23 pm

I didn't know there were different SE5 door handle positions? manual and electric windows perhaps? I have a centre console that needs some repairs but I have a feeling it has a round hole - will check tomorrow.

Jim,
I have early (ish) and later doors with different handle positions - both manual windows. The door cards on the later have two sets of holes in the fibre glass - not in the trim!!

Please check on console. Thanks.

Paul

I'll have to look at 8 Ball closer :-)

Steve (Gillsfan) car is v. early - perhaps I'll ask him to take a photo of his?

....Were there any SE5's with electric windows? I guess Reliant would have done it if a customer specified (& paid) for them........

Good point Geoff - and I think the answer is no!

However, I've had a look at the parts manual and it shows two changes to the SE5 door - firstly the whole door shell was changed at 450501, secondly the whole inner panel (4 parts) was changed at 452030.

Sorry Huw, we seem to have hijacked your thread.

Doors - these are what I have.

'Early' door inner - handle forward - No chassis number (body made - Nov 1970)

Later door inner - handle back - 452110 (Aug 1971)

Door card also later 452267 (Sept 1971) - the type I was after

The difference fits with the chassis number change quoted by Jim.

Yes - perhaps a friendly mod could split our ramblings off into a tech sticky? :D

Mod edit - "Everything you wanted to know about doorcards, but didn't dare ask" now split off from Huw's for sale thread here :)

Door card design #3 - My late chassis number 1971 SE5 has the rear mount handle and a factory mounted front door speakers -part of the stereo 8 4 speaker system. The door card is original (though was tan and I have recovered them black) and has a speaker mounted in a vertical portion in front of the door handle - unlike the aftermarket fit downward pointing one in the post above. see pic. (The door pulls are not original)
