They're 16 mm both ends Jim, I originally bought 13 mm and wondered why I was struggling. Silicone, wire reinforced so that they don't kink when bent. See my project thread .

thanks Geoff - I recently fitted the new heater and didn't think it had 16mm OD pipes? I don't have an autochoke but didn't think that was 16mm either?

any ideas on length?

Ah, don't know about your new heater, mine is the original and admittedly 16mm is an easy slide on, but seems to tighten up fine, no leaks anyway. The manifold end with original heater valve (no auto choke) is defo 16mm (or 5/8 ") As for length you buy the silicone wire reinforced in 1m lengths and cut to fit (about 12 - 14" IIRC)

13 at the heater stubs for the 5a but 5 one is different?; not totally sure about the heater valve on a 5 though (you still got the original one on 8Ball)? Pump rear inlet certainly larger - 16mm sounds right. If using the Taxi valve as Coupe Racing did, I think he had some fun with pipe sizes?

EDIT: Sounds like Geoff has the answers..

taxi valve on order. New heater pipes are the same as the originals AFAIK - I think I'll have to wait until it arrives and do some measuring.

Coupe' Racing wrote:OK

quick update - its fitted - but no coolant yet -

To clarify - the valve as purchased will make the dash heater controls back to front - Hot = Cold ... and Cold = Hot

Ok - so to quickly reverse this - the stop tab needs a little tweek - cycle the arm through 180deg and re bend the stop tab into place - and mount the cable in a way to correspond with the new path.
Also - a loop will need to be made on the end of the cable - and thats it apart from the Useless Kevlar hoses

The manifold outlet is small - as are the heater connections - however the water pump is 16mm as are all the connections on the valve - so a little heat and a bit of harsh language - and all is well.

Anyone want pictures ?

Cheers

Yep - had a little play with the one Steve got before he sorted out the 180 degree flip to correct the movement. You going Silicone or rubber? If silicone, 5-ply seems more common and is less compliant that the 3-ply. 13-16mm elbows are easy enough to get in silicone (I have one lying around for when I plumb my heater in as the Omega engine runs 16mm hoses) as well as straight couplers. As Geoff has found - and I can concur - silicone doesn't bend as easy as rubber..

pricing up silicone - I've spent too much on this build already, so I need to prove to myself that £150 ish for a QRG set isn't overly steep (I think I'm up to £90 without postage on ASH and that's with a couple of minor compromises on exact dimensions)

Most of it's 4.5mm 3 ply or 5.5mm 4 ply but I was looking at the 4mm 1 ply heater hose?

also - thermostat outlet small bore pipe to expansion tank - 10mm? will a 1m length be long enough?

Can't remember if its 8 or 10mm...but without one if front of me, I couldn't say if a metre is enough?

thanks Josh :-)

managed to grab 10 mins to measure whilst picking up the camping stuff and 8Ball has 670mm length of 8mm bore on the overflow. Also - both heater matrix pipes and the water pump are 16mm as Geoff said.

some of the other pipes were measured at slightly different to Hyltons measurements on page 1 but I'll go with his I think.

anyone have the dimensions of the final pipe that's missing from this picture? (water pump to pipe on upright for rad lower connection) - I make it a 90 degree with about 40mm bore (60ish and 50ish length legs) but that was measuring in situ!

I thought that one was a double 45 rather than a straight 90? I've no idea if a straight 90 will cause any problems apart from needing to be a long-leg version?

could well have been originally - I have a 90 fitted and it looks fine - also double 45s aren't listed on ASH :-)
