RAF Coningsby Families Day 27th July

Post by Lukeyboy46 » Wed May 30, 2018 8:04 am

Good morning everyone, hope you are all well.

I've been given the excellent opportunity to display some members cars from the RSSOC at the RAF Coningsby Families day. For those of you that have never heard of an event like this, its essentially an "Open Day" physically on the military base for RAF personnels families/friends to get a free personal air display, up close look at the base and aircraft themselves and a private car display.

Please read the following thoroughly and carefully.

The postcode for the event is LN4 4SY.

Here are some timings for you.

"You will be invited to arrive at a given time in the morning (no later than 1000) in order to be set up for 1100. It is anticipated that the event timings will be 1130 - 1700, with the exhibitors expecting to depart from 1730"

These times will be sharp, as we will be entering the base in a convoy. I can't guarantee that i'll be able to collect stragglers as my own family will be there, so for those travelling, message me for info on local campsites, hotels etc.

There will be private air displays from the following (Subject to servicability) -
Battle of Britain Memorial Flight
The Red Arrows
Eurofighter Typhoon
Great War Display Team
The Matadors
The Blades
The Red Devils
Xtreme Air
Chinook

There will be plenty of food stands and static displays, you'll probably get the chance to sit in a typhoon and other aircraft.

The criteria for the cars to display is that you must be a paid member and it must be an RSSOC related car. No other marques.

I have space for approx 30 cars, however 10 spaces will offered to my local noggin with the same criteria (I expect all of those spaces to be filled.)

Please reply on here or drop me a personal message with your email included

I would like to think this will generate a fair bit of interest as its essentially a free private air display. So please only request a space if you can fully commit to attending. I have risk assessments and exhibitor forms to complete once i've filled spaces.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Luke

Alan Furness and myself ( peter freeman ) would like to come down from Northumberland for the day to join you. We have had a telecon and decided to come in his sprint prepared 5A - VMY 449M - I have ear defenders and a cushion so will probably survive the trip and hopefully the police will still think its their speed trap playing up as Scimitars cannot be that fast. What are the chances of a look around the flight simulator - I worked on a lightning one in the early 1970's - great fun.

Peter the simulators are amazing, had the chance through work to "fly" a Typhoon out from the base, up the east coast to Hull and under the Humber bridge lol
Did the whole trip on reheat and ran out of fuel on the way back :-)

If you struggle for numbers let me know and you can have the Fiesta on your stand? Depending on how our house buy goes we might be in MQs at Tattershall then...

We used to bet the pilots that they could not land upside down - some of us could - paid for part of our tea swindle - never told them how we did it - its surprising how gullible they were. We would of course let some of them do it - they used to boast to the other pilots when they managed it.

I would have jumped at this mate but we get back from Le Mans on 10th and I’m entered for Castle Combe on 28th, so a bit hectic with 2 other cars to get ready for the week before Curbs :(

I'll ask about the simulators, I'm sure I get you a guided tour around where I work provided there's no sensitive testing going on!

No worries Josh, just let me know when you can.

Pete, if you send me a PM with your email i'll send the forms over.

This truly is an excellent opportunity for a nice day out! The true test of this is the chaos it causes on the main roads surrounding camp as those not invited try their best to look in!
