Are we going to Brooklands on New Year's day?

Post by jondwyer » Tue Dec 20, 2016 11:29 am

I'm looking for the usual thread about who is going to be there, but I can't see it. Having missed last year with the Scimitar off the road, I'd be pleased to travel down, this time. Quite expensive, but always a good atmosphere...

I plan to go with either the Sabre or the Sabra Prototype. We don't have a dedicated RSSOC parking area any more as far as I know.

Hi John. Sadly, Brooklands changed their system last year. Basically, car club stands are now only available payable in advance, which rendered it unviable (unless someone wants to take it on?). There's a lot more in this thread :(

AFAIK, you can still go as an individual, in a pre-87 car, and pay on the gate, but there are no pre-allocated Club stands, unless paid as above, so parking will just be "pot luck"

thanks for your support in the past :)

That's a shame: I just had a look at the website and, while the price isn't shockingly high, the worry is that, if there are a lot of cars there and, as they admit, some of the usual parking areas won't be available, you could easily find yourself in an ordinary car park. I may just stick with Bicester Heritage on the 8th January.

Brooklands today was very good. The rain held off until most people had left. it was not as hectic as last year. The right crowd and no crowding. Our cars were well represented.

I went to the Phoenix near Hartley Wintney, the sole Tamworth representative, and had a nice chat with a colleague's friend, who's father had worked for Reliant back in the day. Looks a bit thin in the picture but by 11.00 it was heaving and the queue for bacon butties was long.

I went along in the M.G. and parked behind Richard's lovely SE5A, really good turnout for such a damp day and found out that The White Lion meetings are back on at the end of the month :-)

I must apologise, I wasn't the only Reliant driver at the Phoenix!
It seems I didn't walk far enough up the road.

I ended up at Stony Stratford and, for the second year running, was obviously driving an invisible car:

Lots of nice cars there, and the blue scimitar was in better condition than mine, but...

Any details you can share on this? It feels like a manageable distance for a meet up.

(I must get along to my nearest noggin this year)

IIRC over the last couple of years the then owner of White Lion Antiques, Gerry Mahoney opened his car park on alternate Summer Sunday Mornings for an informal get-together. He sold the Antiques Centre last year and the meetings stopped. He also had the car showroom near Phoenix Green.
Ha has re-started the meetings, beginning today (unfortunately I couldn't make it, so don't know what the turn-out was like) but it got very popular towards the end.
Here's a video I took:

Hope you like it.
