Scimitar mileages before lockdown

Post by Cartrain » Thu May 07, 2020 9:10 pm

Perhaps a trivial query in the circumstances, but with my car being off the road for 3 years, I’m just curious that’s all; how many Scimitars are still used as daily workhorses? Never read much about this.

With many cars being on limited mileage policies, what are the highest mileage cars per annum in the club, in each category?

The most I did in my Se5a was 11k, one year back in the 90’s. I remember it was almost like a taxi where the engine was rarely switched off - quite something.

Back in the day my car was my only transport.
Often doing 65k a year.
Mind you it needed regular engine rebuilds too

Pops only road car is a 6a, does about 8k a year now. Half that towing.

I used a 5a as my daily for 4 years, did 40k in that time. Commuting around London became a chore I have to admit.

MikeyBikey’s mileage is usually pretty high

I did about 80,000 miles in just over 3 years in the 1980s, SE5.
today I had to find an excuse to give the GTC a run,
went to the chippy the other side of town.

My 5a and To did about 12k a year as my only cars from when I got my license to when I bought a modern car 3 years later. The Coupe doesn't get as much use now but still about 2k

Bought new in 1980, then daily weekday commute from stokenchurch to regent street for 10 years.....80 mile round trip (do the maths!), plus weekends in Yorkshire before rebuild by Robin Rew then fun car for few years before selling. At least twice round the clock then! On repurchase she shows 50000 but don't know much of the history.

Bought my 1400 SS1 about 14 years ago, I've done around 45,000 in it so around 3000 a year. Then I bought my 1600 about 10 years ago, since then I've done around 48,000 in it, so a bit less than 5000 a year.

So an average of around 8000 a year between them. I retired about 6 years ago, so the average would have been higher when I was commuting, but lower over the past few years.

Neither have been very far in the last few weeks though.

Since I got the 1600 the SS1s have been my only cars, though the wife has always had a " modern " for longer trips, trips with more than two of us, more luggage needed etc.

The Scimitar SS1 is not so much a car as a lifestyle statement; it basically says "I'm mad, and I don't care".
