MOT exemption

Post by scimjim » Wed Mar 25, 2020 10:43 am

For those that require MOTs, Vehicle owners will be granted a 6-month exemption from MOT testing, enabling them to continue to travel to work where this absolutely cannot be done from home, or shop for necessities.

MOT exemption

I rang to book my van in this morning (it runs out 2nd April), the MOT station told me about the extension. It's for cars running out after 30th March. So if yours runs out before then, you still need an MOT test.

That's how I read it too. One of mine expires 10th April and 2 more in the middle of May :D

I will still try to get mine done on schedule - don't want my MOT's in the winter, took long enough to get them all lined up in the summer

Lots of garages discussing this - it looks like a precursor to making them shut unless they maintain blue light vehicles etc.

I actually popped into my Tame MOT man today.
This can be massive :w
He is staying open as long as he can, and as long as the wholesalers are still supplying parts and punters are dropping cars off for service and repairs he will keep his staff busy.
IF trade is dropping off then every little helps and my MOT is booked for April 1st

The financial and associated mental health impact is going to be around a lot longer than the virus IMHO.

And a lot of friendships Jim!

Yesterday, I told my friend, who I help set up a machining tool for sharpening greens mowers at his workshop, that I would be staying away and last night I got public vitriolic abuse on Facebook from him for letting him down!
Oh well, got plenty to do myself and good to know who is a real friend. 🤔

MOT exemption

Post by Paral » Wed Mar 25, 2020 8:24 pm

Just heard about the 6 month MOT exemption on TV tonight.
My GTC is 40 yrs old in August this year, however it’s MOT is due in June.
Before corona I would obviously have MOT’d in June then become MOT exempt in August. I think I would still put the car in for a voluntary MOT each year just for peace of mind.
Just pondering the new rules, theoretically could I become MOT exempt without having another MOT using the 6 month MOT exemption to get to August when car becomes 40yrs exempt anyway.
