Ok, where is the analysis data for build date/ colour etc.. had it ages ago now can’t locate it. My 6a starts with 9a which I’ll assume is made in Jan 1979.... wondered as she’s now mot exempt and wanted to hope she’d be tax exempt next year... but it seems it will have had to be built by 7/1/79 To qualify ? First registered March 1979

That’s all correct. (Edit - it will be tax exempt next year.)

According to an FBHVC article, DVLA were no longer changing date of manufacture and only accepting date of first registration - but some are now saying that you can still get the date added to your V5C?

AFAIK it should be tax exempt "next year" (i.e. from April 2020) in any circumstances (even if DVLA insist on taking the build date as first registration date, in your case March '79).
I think 07-01-79 is the last date a car could be registered to be tax exempt from April 2019.

I can feel another phone call to DVLA coming on! As if they *will* amend the V5 date, then the Yellow Peril could be tax exempt this year :D

(built October '78 but not registered until March '79 and declared new so build year on V5 recorded as "1979" )
