Hi All,
Looking at potential purchase of a dash cam for the Scim, any recommendations or items to stay clear of?
Thanks

I have a Nextbase 402G in my daily driver, and have used it in my Scimitar when wanting to capture special journeys. For me, the clarity (of both audio and video) is great. I've had mine a few years now (it was 'Which? Best Buy' in 2014), so there may well be better ones on the market by now, but I have no regrets.

As a rough guide to the quality, here's a link to a video I posted in 'Scimitar Sightings'...

I have a Nextbase 420G too like Tom and have had it some years and would highly recommend it. I've also got a Go -Pro which I've had longer than the Nextbase so it's quite old now and not as good in my opinion and much more difficult to use I find ,but as Tom has said they are all probably getting better and easier to use.

I have a reversing and forward camera connected to a home video recording unit (it runs on twelve volts ) to which I am going to fit a SSHD this comes on automatically when I turn on the ignition and will record back and front at the same time it also outputs to a TFT visor monitor

I've a Garmin dashcam 55 in my daily SAAB very small and neat, sits behind rear view mirror and can't see from drivers seat, also isn't on all the time like some, never understood why you'd want that tbh, view through windscreen far better and I think technically illegal like that

Mine cost about 50 quid all in. The recorder was given to me by a friend .the front camera is on the lower edge of the front number plate and the rear replaces the tailgate lock .I don't view it in motion .only when parking .

This is something I was looking into. What are the cameras that you used and I assume it must be a twin channel recorder? Any info could save a lot of head scratching on my part  . Thanks.

I'm sorry isn't the point of having a camera to have it on all the time ,not just take a picture of the car sat on your bonnet after the event ,you'd at least know from whence it came :D

I think Mike mean the display isn’t on all the time - some cameras have a display screen built in.

Thanks.

I found some SD card 4 channel recorders on evilBay for about £50 - might get hit with import duty right enough - so assuming they are OK quality a whole fixed system could be done for well under £100. Might also be small enough to use on my big motorbike (with 3rd plugin camera on helmet?).

Never thought I would be one of those fitting cameras, but it has got too mad on the roads about here not to try and protect yourself. Where do all the idiots come from  .
