Only if not overcooked, and with some pork product such as smokey bacon or cured ham and preferably chestnuts as well.

I can't believe I'm replying to a thread about sprouts..

Sprouts. The most heavenly green vegetable that is so wrongly cooked by so many misguided people. Just like me, many people have been presented with sprouts that have been boiled for hours (it seems), removing all the goodness, firmness and making them a horrid bitter, mushy mess. Then people say that they hate them! Well I do too when they have been so abused. Even Sir Terry had a running joke about putting the sprouts on in November to ensure a disgusting result. ;-)

Just steam them for 10 minutes, that's all they need. Then they are crisp, tasty, not bitter and very healthy. Go on you people who think you hate them, cook them correctly and taste the difference.

I thought that was Sarah Kennedy - or was it a running joke between the two of them when Sarah preceded SIr Tel on the morning slot?

They did originate in Brussels so most people in the UK aren't going to like them!

Brussels sprouts could cut your risk of cancer!

80g serving (roughly five sprouts) provides more vitamin C than an orange
Also provide all your vitamin K needs and more fibre than a slice of brown bread
Some of the most potent effects derive from compounds called glucosinolates

Battered sprouts anyone?

Dunkeld chippy offers deep-fried Christmas dinner
Fish bar owner Scott Davie, 43, said: "People think they don't like Brussels sprouts, but they're always overcooked.

"We do them from raw, and their natural moisture content cooks them through, and they are absolutely amazing. "
