Fantasy Reliant Museum

Post by drcdb15 » Tue Nov 27, 2018 12:42 pm

I don't *think* there's anything on here about this, but sorry if this is old news... I did make a suggestion a while back (http://www.scimitarweb.co.uk/sgwrs/view ... um#p451771), but anyway...

Let us suppose that there really was going to be a "Reliant Museum" - like the one Elvis Payne says Reliant started to work on but never completed. What cars should be in it, and why? If you could nominate a Top Ten, what would they be? And remember this is a *Reliant* museum, not just for Scimitars - so Rebels and Foxes welcome as are Regals and Regents. But What about the Austin Safety Seven that started it all? And do we include the Bond Bug (and my Webster?) - and Middlebridge? And Anadol, Ford, ScooterSki...? Bond Equipe? MetroCab? RIML's guttering ? Where do you draw the line?

And, where should it be - in Tamworth? London? Annexed to Gaydon? Goodwood? Brooklands? Curborough?

The Forum is open...

If it's a museum, I'd've thought it should have one of everything Reliant in it................. :D
And somewhere near the middle of the country; Leeds, York?

Why only ten? :D

Sabre/Sabra prototype
66 OGLE
ARF109D
Ogle GTE
GTE prototype
4WD prototype
C prototype
SS1 number one
SST
Sabre mk2

You’d need space for 40 or more cars to do it justice as the original vans and cars, the later economy range, The Bug, RS, etc. would all need to be represented, as well as non-cars.

Ah, but...………. On the basis that nobody's going to come from Thurso or Land's End on a trip just to see the Museum, other attractions are required for, say, a week's hol. So Harrogate/York is the obvious centre, 'cos you've got North York Moors, Lake District, Yorks Dales, Forest of Bowland (and Peak District at a push), for other relaxation.
What is there by Tamworth? Not a lot...……… :w

I'd second that. It seems the obvious choice.

But you'd need an hourly clock!

An Essex that revs off the chimes at 12/3/6/9

Cologne for 2/4/8/10

And the straight six for 1/5/7/11

I was watching homes under the hammer the other day. There was a derelict mill building comprising multiple floors with several thousand sq foot of space, located in Staffordshire and sold for 50k.
That would have suited the purpose. Has to be somewhere close to Tamworth.

Can't have a Reliant museum without the MK1 Robin. Iconic shape of the 70s penned by Ogle and seemingly of course the namesake for all Reliant 3 wheelers.

Oh all right then - I was kidding. (Can't be bothered with Tripadvisor for aforementioned midlands - as opposed to southern - destinations.)
