What are the police going to charge you with - driving an MOT exempt vehicle without a current MOT? :D

quick question

Post by peter freeman » Wed Sep 11, 2019 5:07 pm

Last year while getting the tax I clicked the box to confirm the car was over 40yrs old. I then had it MOTd as normal. This year I coud not see a box and as I have only done 800miles in it and still not got it back together ( not had the time ) does it need a MOT or as it was listed as being over 40 last year does the no need to have it done carry over. Because of the low mileage I am doing I had thought about having a MOT every 2 years. I do understand that if it fails its MOT it cannot be used.

The tick box isn't to say it’s over 40, it’s to declare it isn’t modified (outside of the VHI rules).

MOT exemption is automatic at 40 but you have to declare VHI when you tax it (just to confuse everyone).

No idea why the page didn’t come up when you taxed it though, supposed to be automatic.
