Auto box change.

Post by Jimscim » Wed Feb 21, 2018 12:03 am

Hi , I am a Newby to the Scimitar scene. I am looking for my first Scimitar and have noticed a lot of advertised cars are automatic, is it possible to change these over to a manual box. ?

welcome :D

auto to manual and vice versa have been done on all models of GTE - simplest is to pick up a breaker with your choice of box, then you have everything you need. Otherwise it's generally pedal box, gearbox, flywheel, spigot bearing, clutch, a little wiring if it's the overdrive and sometimes a prop depending onmodel.

that's assuming you mean a standard Scimitar box. Type 9 is a bit more complicated, T5 is a great box but expensive, RX8 will undoubtedly be done by someone soon.

It seems to me that for every person converting a Scimitar one way, there is another converting it the other way.

Many on here rate the Auto highly. Why not try one.? If you don't like it, look for a manual. And don't discount the manual without overdrive. It's less complicated. Nothing worse than having a non functional overdrive......I have been driving mine around for 2 years.

Hi , Thank you for your replies .. I have always had a bit of a downer on auto boxes , probably goes back to the old days when they were not as good as they are today . Looks like I will have to go and test drive an auto and see how I get on . Thanks again , Jim

6/8 series suit autos in my opinion (depending on use)

5 series not so much (however I have no intention kicking off this debate again :w)

I agree that the 6 series go well with the auto box. If you want it even nicer, look for one that has an A4LD properly done, or do one yourself. It makes a really nice power plant.
