SMs have five stud wheels, so it must be a breadvan conversion in the Citroen museum store - mea culpa

It is indeed a Citroën SM race car, and the big five stud wheels are one of the misleading clues ;-)
I haven't had time to look up details but it seems to me it is mid-engined and really the only resemblance to an SM is the side windows.

Oh, got the posts out of order.
It looks much more like an SM in that photo!

Anyone want to try and guess what this home built creation is based upon? Bonus points for identifying parts from other source vehicles!

That's quite amusing.
It seems to have a BMW badge, for a start ...

Interesting about the BMW badge, as the black car next to it appears to be a real BMW or possibly an EMW East German clone.

Well spotted. I didn't think you'd make out the front badge, I had obscured the rear one though. You are onto something...

Hi I can't claim credit for the BMW badge spot, that was dark star's sharp eye sight!

I'll give you the likeness Steve. But you are barking up the wrong tree.

The back story is one of a creative owner using what was available in Soviet times to keep an old car going. It's quite different from what it was originally but I think there is enough likeness remaining for someone to figure it out.
The side vents are front grilles off of something else, as is the whole boot extension!

Well, the Mods haven't removed this thread, so here's another for you to identify; I don't think this car has ever been on here before, but if it has, you'll get the answer quickly.
