Marshalling / waiting for 60 rally cars competing in this years LE JOG to come through. I'm marking a stage but also sat in the car with flask of coffee watching the sunrise. Bizarrely worth the effort to get up so early on a sat :D

Unfortunately as im actually scoring and marshalling on a post on my own, i can't take pictures whilst holding a clip board and writing notes. Bloody inspiring. Did get a sneaky one. 5 litre amg merc

Le Jog is a fantastic event. You really have to want to do it though - it'll find you or the car out if you're unprepared.

I've done the parallel Touring Trial (don't think that really exists as such now) four times in the past - in the Coupe and the Sabre Six - and even that was challenging, exhausting, relentless and exhilarating. Love it.

Great. What was clearly brilliant is that you can take any old car and turn it into a competition car. There were really old saab, lancias even a beetle. The volvo 144 seemed to be a clever choice. Spacey and tough and driven tidely.

Also was clearly the heavy pedal merchants, like me, probably won't make it. Just too much unnecessary stress on the components when just going around cones !

I didn't realise the event was on this weekend. I'm taking the SE5a to Inverness tomorrow evening, might go via the A9 to see some of the action.

Will feel a bit of a fraud though, starting from Fort William :oops:

This. Endurance events like Le Jog - especially Le Jog - are a marathon not a sprint. Grunt and reliability - a Scimitar makes a cracking rally car and it's all about balancing going for it on the tests vs not breaking anything serious. It's absolutely no good to be top of the leader board only to break a half-shaft due to carelessness on a test in the Highlands. Even trivial problems - say a minor wiper motor fault - take time to fix at 4am in the rain and dark, with few tools, when you're dog-tired, hungry, cold, wet, p*ssed-off... And then once you've fixed it, the whole rally's moved on without you so you're cutting and running, chasing to catch-up.

Like I say, you really have to want to do it - but it's a fantastic event and that's the challenge you've signed up for. Everyone's in the same boat and the feeling once you get to JoG at dawn on that Tuesday morning is exhilaration.

I'd love to watch this event :) With no other plans in Inverness tomorrow night I'm trying to gauge when the cars might be passing.

The website shows 'first car' at Dingwall 0250hrs is that as it sounds when time checks at Dingwall opens or are cars likely to be arriving ahead of 0250hrs?

You're right - the first car is due at Skiach Services, Evanton at 02.50am. So you can expect cars to be arriving for the 60mins or so after that. As a Time Control I suspect that will be a quick opportunity for a coffee etc but no actual Tests there.

If you wanted more action you could drive down to Aviemore and the Hilton Coylumbridge for 8.45pm. Usually there's an enforced 4-hour rest stop at Aviemore before the final night leg to JoG, crews probably leaving Aviemore around midnight at a guess. Exact times aren't published. So the car park is organised chaos, rally cars everywhere being fettled with the support of the RAC support crews, crews grabbing sleep/food/final plotting for the night leg etc.

But don't take this as definitive - times are subject to change due to weather, road conditions, delays etc.

Okay, thanks Chris for the info. I might just head for Aviemore on the off-chance the timings work out. I'll keep a look out on the HERO site too for live updates.

A real bonus if it works out, beats spending the evening in the hotel - I'll pack a Thermos though :)
