London T-Charge

Post by MarkHawkins » Mon Oct 23, 2017 11:37 am

Out of interest I checked to see which of the cars I drive might be subject to it.
Unsurprisingly the 12 year old Discovery is subject to it, but strangely neither 1968 HBL or 1977 OPJ are ...

"Thank you for using the T-Charge checker. Your vehicle is not subject to the T-Charge.

Your vehicle meets at least the Euro 4 / IV standard (Euro 3 if you are a motorised tricycle or quadricycle).

The classification of your vehicle may change if Transport for London receives information regarding its emissions that shows it does not comply with the T- Charge emissions standards."

As expected, there’s a historic class exemption.

Exemptions
Motorcycles, mopeds and scooters that are exempt from the Congestion Charge are also exempt from the T-Charge.

Taxis and private hire vehicles (PHVs) are exempt from paying the Congestion Charge and the T-Charge when actively licensed with TfL. The exemption for PHVs only applies to private hire bookings.

Other exemptions include:

Vehicles with a historic tax class (40 years and older) and/or commercial vehicles manufactured before 1973. These vehicles continue to be subject to the Congestion Charge
Two-wheeled motorbikes (and sidecars) and mopeds that are exempt from the Congestion Charge
Emergency service vehicles, such as ambulances and fire engines, which have a taxation class of 'ambulance' or 'fire engine' on the date of travel
NHS vehicles exempt from vehicle excise duty, and Ministry of Defence vehicles
Roadside recovery vehicles and accredited breakdown vehicles registered for a 100% discount from the Congestion Charge
Specialist off-road vehicles such as tractors and mobile cranes (that are exempt from Low Emission Zone)

The 9-5 will be euro 4 but not sure why the 900 would be exempt? A mk2 sabre isn’t exempt.

if you cannot take a car into London you will be left with a bus or train - could be a ghost town.

It won’t stop those that can afford it, or have their company pay for it.

Only a matter of time, before other towns follow this system.

There’s a big discussion on the mgtf Facebook page at the moment, apparently with the same spec cars, same year and everything - some are exempt, some aren’t :D

Just checked mine, it says my 1960 Landy is ok, but no info on the stiletto, datsun or the amazon? It's all a bit odd.

Was disscussing on line with FBHVC last night, it appears that as I'd checked 2 no 40+ year old vehicles first that the page had held those details and not registered the vehicle change despite it saying that the car details were my SAAB's details, very missleading that and a potential minefield should someone do a screen capture to prove why they didn't pay the T tax I would think :w

£20 per visit, sod that . . . . .

I can see folk voting with their feet, and probably not onto the buses

what happens if you take a wrong turn , go out of zone , do a U-turn and then back in a few minutes later?

anyway , not going to affect me (yet) as no mention of it North Border, we are all going to be driving leccy cars in three years time
