The Grand Tour (GT) not Top Gear (TG)

Post by scimjim » Fri Nov 25, 2016 5:52 pm

Watched this the other day - thought some of it was too scripted and stilted but overall much better than any version of TG I've ever seen.

I must watch it on a big screen because even on an iPad the filming looked stunning!

It was criticised for being too much like a movie, but honestly I loved it. I'm pleased they are all back.

Make sure you have adblocker on (or watch it on an apple product) - free to view sites obviously get their funding from other sources!

This week's episode is very silly. A bit cringe worthy in places. Week 1 was much better.

Just saw the american one (week 1?) very good fun. Actually laughed out loud which is quite a surprise for me being bit of a cynical twit who really doesn't enjoy TV..

I really enjoyed the first episode as well. I also laughed out loud. Blew the last BBC Top Gear series out of the water.

I agree the first episode was OK.

Second one was dire beyond belief.

Thanks for the link, Jim. Just watched it.

Can't say I was overly impressed, though. Same old, same old, but with a bigger budget.

Don't think I will be making the effort to search it out. probably watch when it turns up on 'Dave' and repeated 'ad nauseum'....

I would only put it on par with the later Top Gear episodes. Not watched the second one.

Just watched the second one last night. Pretty dull, I thought. The 'special forces' bit got really tedious and the American NASCAR driver is a pain in the backside. First one was better. I do hope it doesn't turn out to be the best of the bunch and the series improves.

Good to see Top Gear, sorry, Grand Tour back on track with the 3rd episode. A big improvement over the dire South African one and, thankfully, no American (wonder if the shows are edited on the fly?)

Although most of the film work was situated in Italy, it makes me wonder if the show needs a British setting and environment to be at it's best. A bit like TG, actually.

On a more concerning note, I'm not sure how much longer Jezza will last. He looks terrible (sorry, if you're reading this Jeremy). Overweight, deathly pallor and, I believe, still smoking. All that rich living is taking its toll.
