Yes, both my cars are insured - including for the short period they were SORNed.

Lets clear it all up.
So Chris, Steve, Mark and rebel alliance had insurance, but did Kwackers and Mike do you have insurance on yours?

Who has contacted DVLA through their .Gov system, then declared VHI and Got free tax Without Insurance ONLINE and how did you do it?.

Actual proof would help as I`m not that gullible to even be on facesnapbooktwitchatcrap and tell everyone when I take adump or snort shite.

Anecdotal whispers ARE NOT helping here.

One person managed to get Tax at a Post Office without his car being insured - I think that was probably operator error by the counter staff because it contradicts the law and everything everyone else is saying?

Exactly Jim.
rebel alliance, I have no need or urgency to join twittertwatfacesnaptrollmeuckyoubook, so Jonathan Dewars posts mean nothing to me.
ALL im asking is how the ¬uck do you get VHI and Tax exempt?.
The DVLA web site is no help and I have told them so.

When I spoke to someone from the DVLA the other day about MOT exemption for my Scimitar he told me to wait until the tax is up and do it then. When I explained that my tax is not due until May 2019 and my MOT is due in June this year he suggested I ring the DVSA on 0300 1239000 as they deal with the MOT side apparently.

Hi Terry
I have spent too much time on the phone, and on line, AND time at my local taxing post office trying to get to the "Actual" way of doing this.

The DVLA are not fit for purpose, how much money do they collect from us, and still can`t organise a $iss up in a brewery.

I`ve had enough of this joke and will get the "cheapest" insurance I can before even thinking about moving on.

I`m throwing the towel in on this scimweb debate.

I would not worry about it rebel alliance I have had a member from this club (Bristol branch ) insult me be calling my car a skip on wheels at a cherished show (I use it every day unlike him ) I think he did not like the fact that most people where looking at my car and favorably commenting on my car being more down to earth.

I agree with " Rebel Alliance " the language coming from "gtcse8 " is well out of order I know we are all grown up on here but I got lots of stick for some of the things I said
which wasn't half as bad. I am very reluctant to put my views on here any more because of it , but other members seem to get away with anything .But felt I had to say something about this.

If people have problems with Tax And MOT of there car it's for them to sort out , and go to the DVLA and so on.

Now I have said my piece I will go back under my stone .

Gentlemen,

Before this thread turns into a full-on slanging match, locked and lost as a valid discussion point, can we leave the Off Topic feelings out of this? There are those who don't do Facebook the same as there are those who don't do the forum - neither should be ostracised or criticised for their choice.
gtcse8 - I can tell your frustration at an apparent lack of clarity of the proper way on how to do this based on official documentation but given the source (gov.uk) it's not exactly surprising. Your language (and blatantly trying to avoid a direct word filter which we don't have - there is an assumption that those who participate on here are above that sort of behaviour  ) isn't the sort of behaviour we would expect on here. Please refrain from doing so. If you wish to swear and curse, please shout at the cat/dog/budgie/wall instead, walk away from the keyboard and have a cuppa.

Admin hat now put back on the shelf..

Back to the original question:

For a car to be "taxed", it's simple - it should be Insured and either hold a valid MoT certificate OR have been declared MoT exempt as a VHI. VHI declaration can only be done (as I understand it) when applying for "tax" which will either be at the renewal, or if you declare SORN, then re-apply for "tax" which I believe it possible the next day for a Historic Vehicle.

I'm happy to clarify the above statement if any of the above is actually incorrect - ignoring instances where a Post Office employee hasn't done it by the book.

Just had our Sabre through the MOT and sorry to say the rules have changed again this month. Not sure which rules affect our cars as I did not have time to go through them all with my MOT man but for example - reversing lights now checked for cars post 2009, under bonnet sound proofing must be fitted if fitted originally, exhaust heat shields must be fitted if fitted originally ( MOT man says that is going to annoy a lot of people as the garage used to just rip them off if rusty ) After market HIDs are now a MOT failure - don't know the time dates on this one, all in all a nightmare he says. He thinks the MOT rules were just copied from the German rules and the translation is not good.
