FAQ

Post by scimjim » Thu Mar 28, 2013 10:57 pm

I've put this draft FAQ in here purely for discussion or rejection - but the proposal is, that it's linked somewhere obvious on the website homepage and the forum index page?

It's not a comprehensive index of every section of the website/forum but a quick reference to those things that get asked time and time again - particularly those that aren't immediately to hand.

anyway - comments, additions, deletions, ten pound notes all welcome :-)

THE CLUB

1. Club contacts
2. Club History, Constitution, Rules and Accounts
3. Joining the RSSOC
4. Buying Club merchandise
5. Vehicle Storage

THE FORUM

1. Newcomers
2. Can’t login?
3. Forum guidelines and rules
4. Can't acces some areas?
5. How to upload a picture
6. How to insert a link in a post
7. Using the search function

GENERAL

1. Wiki
2. Buyers Guides
3. Members Location Map

TECHNICAL

1. Wiring diagrams

It looks reasonable to me, Jim.

The one adjustment I would suggest is "How to access the member's area" is renamed something like :
"Can't access some sections of the website?"

1. Those affected see the problem as lack of access without understanding that it's related directly to the members' area.
2. The apostrophe is in the wrong place :) ;)

Other than that, if it answers some folks' questions before they ask them of other members, it works for me.

Wiring diagrams will perhaps reduce the number of times I have to post the location - the rest looks ok to me as well.

I don't want to make the tech section too big but thought wiring diagrams were justified. I'll rename the members area tomorrow (but my OCD wouldn't let me leave the apostrophe there!)

If push comes to shove I can create a sub section from the tech section for the wiring drawings.

I agree. Too many technical items would quickly overwhelm it. Best leave the technical aspects to the obvious Technical Sections.

It was just a suggestion on the member's area bit. You may be able to come up with something that reads better than what I came up with.

No, you're right Darryl - too much red wine to focus at the moment though :-)

Looks good! :D

In addition to putting a link on the Forum Homepage, would it be worth considering sending it out as a "confirmation e-mail" to newly-enrolling forum members? (hopefully automatically, without creating extra work for the admins :) )

Where did you upload it to? I was going to pass a copy to Peter for inclusion on the NE noggin page, then we have all wiring diagrams in one place?

Sorry - don't understand the question?

I already have those on my PC Jim but did not want to add too much to the site or to your FAQ but can do so quite easily if you want them adding.

I suppose I should ask for permission and copy them all to the wiki anyway?
