It's a snazzy detachable swan neck jobbie, with fold away electrics

Looking forward to doing some towing with it, 262PS/580Nm and 3500kg load limit. I just hope the MPG isn't too eye watering
Ah....I have that too; but it just stays on the car

If you prefer the Classic look to your Range Rover but need a little more go than the standard car - how about this ?

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/ji ... 017-review

It's actually a bit lighter than a standard D3 but slightly heavier than a standard Classic. I can't imagine the fuel economy could be much worse than an old P38?

I can certainly recommend the Kia's, i have been Aftersales Manager for them as well as other brands for the last 4 years, and on the whole are pretty reliable, more so than Land Rover, who i was Aftersales Manager for 8 years !!

Just had the Touareg serviced and the service guy tells me that it needs new rear brake pads soon (75% worn). It's only done 25k miles

And the cost............................... £390

I asked if they were gold plated, but apparently not
He did say I was lucky the discs were OK as that's an £800 bill.

I didn't expect to have to actually work on this car, but I aint paying that much for a set of pads. Just ordered pads, sensors and springs, £45 all in. Watched the youtube video on how to do it, and I reckon I can do both sides in about an hour. Where the hell do VW dealers get their prices from?

Quoted nearly £500 for front pads and discs on the Merc by an independent (marque specialist) - under £100 for branded parts and took me about 45 minutes.

I think you’re right. Only Audi dealers lend you a nice courtesy car. They always found me something pretty good whilst my A4 was in. VW lent me an UP :( .

True, but the repair costs should only reflect the better materials and higher manufacturing costs and maybe a bit more for the extra customer service that buyers expect. This price is just taking the urine.

My problem is that VW are charging Audi prices to Touareg customers, but giving them VW customer service. I dare say that Phaeton customers get the same.

I saw the new Touareg in the showroom. Very nice but £55k with no discounts available. Last year you could get 20% off the last model. Someone paying that sort of money won’t be impressed with an UP courtesy car and no frills customer service :w .

That’s part of the reason I’m jumping the VAG ship for the next company car. Oh - that and they don’t know what their new CO2 figures effective 1st September are..

TBF, they've never really known what their co2 figures were :D

I suspect they’ve been told to save money in every possible area after the huge fines they’ve had over emissions figures?

You need to buy BMW, got lent a £90k 7 series for a week

When my last 5 series needed pads and discs at 35k miles, cost about 500 quid. Discs were 120 for fronts and same for rears, pads about 70quid each end iirc. I did eBay check and dealer was about 10% more on parts than the unbranded stuff. Very reasonable, but then VAG do have to pay that eleventy squillion euro emissions evasion fine somehow 🤣🤣

Some dealers are just arses--end of. Went to look to order and F-Pace Jag and they scurried away and ignored me, not much different at Land Rover dealer when I was looking at Velar. Dealer experience is a massive thing for me, it's a company car (my family company) so I don't want being dicked around, the cars a tool. Same with purchase, I ain't looking round their showroom to kick tyres or window shop, if I'm there it's to buy and I've done my homework so I know what model, options and spec I want. I've also checked what business deals are available so have a good idea of what I'm paying, so don't send Smarmy Salesman with his hand wringing attitude, you have 20 mins to sell me this car and I'm off 😁

EDIT
Always deal with their Business sales guys, not normal sales guys. We've bought a number of business cars and they are great, often saying stick personal name on the log book as better offers at that time or put firms name, either way you get best deal 😎

I think I might. I’ve been spoilt by the Audi dealer for the last few years. They’ve lent me all sorts of nice stuff such as S5 convertible, all sorts of Quattro stuff and SUVs. Their prices weren’t too bad either.

The VW experience was very very underwhelming. I do like the Touareg though, it’s a brilliant tool. Though maybe next time I’ll be looking for a Q7 or X5.

If you look at BMW, I have a tame man Corky with dealerships around UK, sorted a number of friends with great deals.
