What cars did you see today? (Non-Scimitar)

Post by scimjim » Sat Mar 03, 2012 5:30 pm

There's been several mentions of interesting cars people have spotted on their travels, but I thought I'd try and start an enduring thread where we can post our non-scimitar sightings?

I did about 400 miles today (all non-motorway - Gloucester, Oxford, Duxford, Bury st Edmunds) and saw a moggy minor ragtop, a chrome bumpered BGT, a plastic bumpered midget, a gorgeous XK120 or 150 in gloss black and amongst the modern rubbish, two nearly identical Nissan GTRs stood out (both with GTR number plates!)

Saw a Mk1 Escort and an early 3 door Range Rover; both on trailers. An immaculate beige W reg Mini this morning around Walsall.

Very tidy looking red Regal (?) on a towing dolly stuck in the M6 jam by Stafford yesterday lunchtime as well.

Lambo on a trailer - what a waste transporting it that way.

A very nice looking, shiny black TR6 driving into Tesco's car park ( Gloucester ) yesterday about lunchtime.

In the last week: Austin 7 entering Tesco car park in Royston. Sapphire Cosworth on the A1M southbound. Scimitar GTE exiting the A1M southbound at Hitchin. Gallardo also on the A1M southbound. SE6 Borehamwood High Street 6.00pm approx (looked nice - didn't flash or wave as driving modern hatchback thingy). Lancia Delta Integrale yet again on the A1M.

My car sharing colleague gets very, very bored when I start rabbiting on about Austin 7s.

I felt quite guilty when a guy in a nice looking Stag with the roof down waved at me in the GTC (with hardtop on) in Tesco car park the other day

I was also happily surprised when I came out of Tesco to find a note on my windscreen from the classic 911 driver (who I'd nodded to in the Tesco petrol station minutes earlier) - pointing out that I'd left my GTC fuel cap open  that's a big advantage to the locking type on the 5!

Watched a Freelander and a Yaris both reverse out of opposite car parking spaces at the supermarket.
The Freelander rear mounted spare wheel managed to push the door and rear panels in on the Yaris.
Yaris driver comment "I don't believe it"
Freelander "Thats what insurance is for"

Saw an Alvis TD21 DHC with the poor chap getting wet with the hood down, seeing as the rain had started whilst stuck in traffic! Whilst at the workshop where my GTE is sitting and gradually being restored, I saw a lightweight 'New' E-type being prepared for the Minshaw family and various parts of a Nissan Group-C Le Mans car sitting in bits around my car. Nice to see that my car doesn't get treated any differently from the Maserati Bird Cages, E-Types and exotic race cars that the same workshop occasionally handles... :)

Last Friday I spotted a Simca 1000 Rally2 in the opposite lane. I drove the A28 south, just outside Groningen, NL.

Well on my trip to and from Phil Howards today, i saw a few interesting items, all M6, ll southbound around the J20 to 16 area.

L reg white Triumph 2000 (doing about 80 in the rain!)
A Triumph TR5 rally car in Red
An Austin A40 in pale Blue with black roof
A Bedford CA van on a low loader looking very much a project!
An early 80's BMW 3 series rally car on a trailer, muddy, and all the front stoved in....whoops!

A lot of cars in one small area at once, perhaps there was something on???
