About fifty years ago I travelled 150 miles in this old timer, hadn't seen it since until a couple of weeks ago. It is powered by a three cylinder Perkins diesel.

Seen in the NEC car park last week. Probably rarer than some cars inside the show.

A bit of a cheat here, as I've got 2 cars from the British Motor Heritage Museum at Gaydon. I work next door to it & I've been meaning to drop in have a look at the recent building, which houses some of the Jaguar Trust cars, but is also an over spill storage upstairs that you can still wander round.
Both of these are likely to mean more to me than others. 1st one is a Metro van
I can't remember how many of these were built, there was certainly one as a pizza delivery van too. These were prototype mules for the MGF (code PR3), which were running when I started my apprenticeship with Rover. They had the Metro front subframe modifief & rear mounted with the mid mounted engine. There's a Reliant tie-in as Reliant built a "PR2" proposal on the SS1 chassis.
The second one comes from the end of my apprenticeship. I didn't really have anything to do with it, other than helping on some parts whilst I was on a work placement in the prototype metal-work shop. However, I joined the engineering team that were responsible for it, firstly for a 3 month placement, then after completing my apprenticeship.
This was the last of the LCV's, "Light Weight Concept" vehicles. All the others looked like a current vehicle. I think 1 was a Discovery, 2 were Defender 90's. This one is LCV 2/3 which was the same as the 2's but with a K V6 engine & a re-style. I drove this a few time out on the test track

The PR3 and metro mules were only being discussed yesterday on an MGF Facebook page I’m on (I didn’t bother mentioning that the PR2 was the only submission that could actually move under its own power
)
IIRC the disco mules were maestro vans?
Was the “defender” KV6 still a separate chassis?

The Maestro vans were mules for Freelander 1. Most were painted standard van white, there may have been 1 or 2 black ones too, I can't remember.
The LCV's had integral aluminium chassis. So no not a seperate chassis, but a bit more than a monocoque. Pretty similar to the current bigger Land Rover alloy bodies. However, the gearbox was centrally mounted, separate to the engine for better weight distribution & reduced polar inertia. They had various other light weight components on them to.
