Vehicle Storage

Post by scimjim » Mon Oct 17, 2011 3:02 pm

Whilst looking into possible car & spares storage options for myself and other members of the Gloucester Noggin, we have found a discrete, dry barn owned by a farmer who is prepared to let us use it at a good rate. The thing is, there are two sections to this barn and we may be able to have both. That means the difference between space for 12 cars (which the noggin could probably half fill) - to 24 (this is a conservative estimate leaving plenty of room to move around and manouvre any car out without having to move others)!

We've therefore discussed the possibility of providing winter storage for Club members at reasonable rates - this would be for Scimitars only, they must be insured (fire & theft) and properly SORNd with usual disclaimers regarding vandalism, forces of nature etc. This is a privately run arrangement at owners risk and not a Club function. Owners would drop them off in Oct/Nov and pick them up in Feb/Mar - at pre-arranged times. Access would be by appointment only, periodic running could be arranged etc

I would stress that this is only early discussions but I'd like to canvas uptake, opinions and advice?

Do you have any ball park figures on costs Jim? It is a little too far away from me but I would love somewhere like that to store or work on my car. Would there be a possibilty in setting a car club up there with shared facilities to work on members cars?

would suggest at a minimum that the cars are properly insured by their owners , and the building itself have adequate insurence cover - however - I am sure much of this will be looked into if the plan evolves

no figures yet but I wouldn't be interested if I thought they were going to be unreasonable. Working on cars is something I'm discussing next week - ideally I would like a totally seperate building for occasional welding/grinding/spraying and it just so happens that there is another brick building adjacent that would fit the bill - but I would envisage normal maintenance taking place on one side of the barn and storage only on the other.

It sounds like a brilliant idea Jim, it's a pity I dont live closer as I would be the first name on your list. Shared facilities can be a nightmare to manage but if everyone is like minded there should be no issues that cannot be overcome and every one who joins should benefit.

Shared by 12 or 24 equates to either one month or a half month rental per car each plus the extra's like insurance etc, that sounds like a good deal for anyboby to start off with and should be with the reach of all interested parties.

Okay - update on the long awaited storage (for those that were paying attention, there was a quick paragraph in Chairman Phil's write up in Slice this month). We now have secure doors, new gutters, power, water & light (there's even a proper toilet!). Once the last few bits are finished and the contract is signed, we'll be ready to take some cars :-)

Image

So here's the outline plan with prices:

Non-Reliants will be welcome subject to space but priority will always be given to Reliants and Club members.

We haven't finalised prices yet but have been working on the following draft:

Monthly (minimum period) - £50
Winter storage (approx 5 months) - £200
6 monthly - £250
Annual - £450

With a 20% discount on the above for Club members giving:

Monthly - £40
Winter storage - £160
6 monthly - £200
Annual - £360

Notes.
1. Club Membership must be retained throughout storage period to receive discount.
2. Vehicle must be insured by owner (fire and theft minimum) - the building is insured separately, as are any Club members in it at any time (PLI).
3. Winter storage dates will provisionally be 3 Nov 12 until 30 March 13, other delivery/collection dates may be available on request.

Payment will be in advance by cheque to the Club Treasurer, by debit/credit card to the Club Secretary - and hopefully via the online shop eventually?

All feedback gratefully received - particularly on draft pricing plan.

Bah, price should be based on footprint also, them breadvans take up too much space!
Though I suppose they do have shed like qualities for secondary storage....

GTE owners don't need to hide them in a shed as they are a thing of beauty, take your ugly stick and go and beat yours some more behind closed doors of course so no one can see it

Small amendment - the final pricings agreed with the committee were slightly lower than those posted above - for annual storage:

Monthly (minimum period) - £50
Winter storage (approx 5 months) - £200
6 monthly - £250
Annual - £400

With a 20% discount on the above for Club members giving:

Monthly - £40
Winter storage - £160
6 monthly - £200
Annual - £320
