1974 Dealers list

Post by roymck » Sat Jan 05, 2019 5:35 pm

There was one at Outwood Lane , Chipstead , Surrey . It became a BMW dealer . A friend of mine was a car salesman there and he tipped me off that they had all the Scimitar stock tucked away round the back . So what to do , bought the lot , picked out what I needed for my resto and sold the rest onto Don Pither .

This is the original dealer sticker from MB14. Silverdale seem to be difficult to find information on. I think they went out of business in the early 1990's but had been trading since at least the 1960's See HERE. Interested to see if anyone has a Silverdale advert.

Here's an advert from 1970. I've got a Silverdale Middlebridge Advert somewhere too if I remember...

As I say I'm still compiling a list with all the dealer listas and magazine articles I have, from 1962, but I've only got as far as 1973 so far!! Many years to go

So they were in business in 1948 then if they had been distributing Reliant for 22 years in 1970. If you dig out the MB advert any time do let me know!! 8)

Clarks Garage, Crawthorne Road, Peterborough. Also a dealer from sometime in mid to late 70s

Dave
I seem to remember one of the last Middlebridges being photographed at the Famous Five Rise Locks in Bingley after Bingley Autorama registered one of the last MB bought from the auction.
It was in one of the main stream classic car mags but I can`t find it in my comprehensive back issues of car mags :?:

Couple of dealer ads, also from the September 1974 issue of Fast Car.
Interesting to see the reg numbers listed in the Crown Motors ad. Quick search found that 3 reg's no longer exist, while 2 were taxed up to 2004 and 2008 respectively, so may still exist somewhere.

Diverging a little further from the thread title but I thought those following might be interested in images of a RSSOC produced Reliant Scimitar and Middlebridge Scimitar dealer list from 1989 with a GW advert on the reverse. It shows 20 Middlebridge dealers and GEnMan offering to restart the regular report on Scimitar Dealer performance!

Very interesting! I see from PeteMac's post above reference to Crown Motors. So, the Sales Director's family lived opposite my parents place and both families were friends for many years (us kids all grew up together in the late 60s and into the 70s). Crown Motors was primarily a Merc dealer, but I remember when they took on the Reliant GTE and marvelling at how cool they looked on our friends's drive. I also remember that it was the SD's wife ("Auntie Muriel") who drove around in a GTE and I remember us going to the seaside somewhere and having a stretch of the journey in the back seat of her GTE.

Good to see Mercury Motors in Fife mentioned in the 1989 dealers list. I viewed an 18800Ti a couple of years back near Stirling that was still on Mercury Motors plates and had all the original sales documentation.

Mercury Motors is no longer on the go, but the ex-owner introduced himself to me at a show in Fife last year. He complimented me on the Ti and went on to say he'd toured Europe in one back in the day. He couldn't praise the car enough. Great to hear such enthusiasm from an ex-dealer.

I purchased my 1300 SS1 from Rickmansworth Sports Cars in 1988.

They closed in 1990ish, and some of the staff set up Ricky Sports Cars in South Oxhey, though doing a quick Google search, it looks like they are still around and back as Rickmansworth Sports Cars.
