OH SHIT I JUST TYPED THE WORD RENAULT OH NO I'VE DONE IT AGAIN SORRY SORRY SORRY

When I broke down the other week the Recovery chaps continuously refered to the car as a Renault Skimiter over the coms system. Didn't say anything behind my gritted teeth. I was just glad of the lift home  .

A few years ago I couldn't work out why it was taking so long for Auto windscreens (or whoever) to fetch a new screen for the SS1 'Mr Green' from QRG 40 minutes up the road. When I saw the paperwork - you guessed it - they couldn't locate a screen for a Renault SS1 anywhere.

Is the SE5 of Roy Mc Bride already known here ? (I could not find any trace searching his name or plate number on the forum)

According to his blog - well that was 7 years ago - the car is/was based in Capetown:

EDIT: It looks like he also had a Coupe project  Chassis number SC400048 , 63 ?

RE-EDIT: if you have a look at the earliest posts on his blog, Roy has a gorgeous Hillman Imp 8)
For those who like engineering & boating you should be amazed by what this guy's doing - well I am  -

The Coupé used to be registered RTH 978C
It was for sale in 2009
It is chassis 0048
No recent news of it

You must have misspelt his name in your search, Fred, he's popped up a couple of times - this thread, and the linked one, at least :)

i contacted Roy McBride when i first became a forum member, he told me that he DID ONCE UPON A TIME represent the scimitar club in S,Africa but stood down.
when i spoke to him he didn't own a scimitar but was heavily involved in re-building a 1920 something sunbeam, he even sent me photo,s. now here is pure coincidence, i knew of a solid spoke wheel sunbeam that was sat in the bush in Namibia so i put him in contact with the owner of the car. to cut a long story short the car is now in England and in the hands of [im told] a very competent person.
i have had no contact with Roy since those early days.
there are a few scimitars in S.A some in C.Town and some in Johannesburg and Durban some of the owners are club members or so i have been told.
just for the record the Hillman Imp is a Hillman California, angled rear window is the give away
