SE6/a/b Rear Quarter Window Seal

Post by Terry H » Thu Sep 20, 2007 6:26 pm

I dont mind starting this list. I'm afraid to take mine out because they're falling apart, I would like both sides. Anyone following that doesn't already know, note, these are NOT the same as the SE5/a ones.

needed these too as am respraying my se6.. went to woolies trim, sent him a sample of the one I ripped out and he returned the closest possibility he had. I actually think that these might work and even create a tighter seal than the originals...

will take the risk to buy them and see what happens... anything for the benefit of a scim! :D

thanks h_rose4.
can you tell the rest of us what the woolies trim item code is, so we can benefit from your experience without all of us ripping out /cutting up our rare seals before starting work? ta

Just been on the GW site and they show SE6 quarter rubbers as now being remanufactured parts. I think they were £59.95, I havent bought any yet but would anyone buying any please post and let us all know how well they fit or dont fit as the case may be.

I got in touch with GWalker, and the £60 is ex-vat and ex-postage, and is the price per side. Am I out of touch with prices - this would amount to iro £200 for a car set? This seems huuuge cost for something (on the face of it) so basic. Has h_rose4 had any luck in sourcing an alternative thro' Woolies Trim? Or maybe I'm just being stingy?

I think you will find its all down to quantities - the number GW will have had made for his stock will be relatively small as they are car specific. He will have to keep them on stock for probably a number of years and that will add to his costings. If you try to get someone to make a pair for you elsewhere you will probably find them more expensive - I'm just pleased that he has put money up front to make them available in the first place, trialling arms for the SS1's will be the next item people will be searching for.

I haven't been in touch with GW but when I bought my windscreen rubber from them, (not far off the same weight), postage was £5. For a pair of rear quarter rubbers I cant see how the postage can be more than £8 unless Special delivery is involved.
The charge should be

Quarter rubbers 2@ £59.95 = £119.90
Standard Parcel delivery £08.00 = £ 8.00
Total ex VAT = £127.90
Total with VAT @ 17.5% = £150.28

If they quoted you £200 they are over charging you.
I think the price is still high but you have to take into account the cost they have had to put up front for tooling and the amount they will eventually sell. There cant be more than 90 SE6's left and not all those will have perished rubbers, not sure on the a/b's, and not everyone will want new rubbers unless they are removing the window to respray the car maybe.

I think Peter's right, and I suspect that a significant factor in GW's calculations may have been the fact that somebody recently paid 200 for a pair of NOS rubbers on fleabay, which may have convinced them that it was worth the investment of getting them made. They will need to show a return on their investment, and that probably would not have happened at the old price (whatever that was?).
In the end I suspect it boils down to a hard choice - would you prefer them to be 20 quid, but unobtainable, or 160 quid, and available off the shelf?......

cheers,

....Roger

Yes Roger, I remember that Ebay item, watched it like a hawk but it went over what I thought they were worth at the time. Someone in France on the Yahoo Forum sold them I think, what a result for him. Dont know who bought them though, will anyone own up to paying that sort of money.

If £150 is a lot for rear quarter window seals, try a Rover dealer for the sliding window channels on a Mini Clubman Estate. I bought some about fifteen years ago for £144 per side! Then found the same thing (exactly the same) was available from Woolies for a few £ per mtr
