ok

dont quote me

this is third hand info

Daniel Lockton who has written several books about the Reliant marque claims that the SS1 screen ""maybe "" TR7.

As I said - dont quote me on that and am braced and ready to be shot down

yes - you missed the bit that said 6 weeks to make one If I want it fitted quicker, I need to source it myself.
Roger Pennington wrote:Are you saying that Autowindscreens can't find any anywhere? It's not clear from your note.
The cheapest they can get is £450 - they won't pay that because they can have them MADE for significantly less.
Ah! - I did read that, but that line wasn't linked to the line above so didn't read like that :)

Anyway, my concern is from my point of view, as a driver paying for insurance which includes windscreen cover. I admit it's a while since I read the detailed policy wording, but I don't remember anything saying they will only fit a windscreen if it's cheap? :? I wasn't aware that they had any discretion in the matter? I thought their priority was to keep you on the road?

That then raises the question that if the 6-week wait for a screen at a price they can afford, is rendering the car undrivable (either because the damage is too large, or perhaps because the MOT is due) then will they provide a courtesy car while you wait for a screen? That's an important question if it's an everyday car.

cheers,

....Roger

Roger, it's a valid point and I haven't read the small print either - I will do tonight though.

Nigel at QRG is away till next Monday, Ricky Evans hasn't got back to me yet but David has replied re getting some heated screens made - they will take even longer though.
Reliant Parts world are non-contactable and I would hope that auto-windscreens had contacted the main players such as RAC auto-windshields (if you google them, you get some sites written by some very angry people!)

I'd never heard about the TR7 link Steve and if this picture is accurate, they look very different to me.

Ricky Evans (http://www.heatedwindscreen.com/) replied last night:

Hi Jim

Sorry for the late reply its really busy at this time of year
(I wouldn't call 6 hours after my email: "late"!)

I don’t stock the SS1 screens sadly but could get some made in a couple of weeks

The clears would be £115.70 and the tints £127.40

I still have a few of the SE6 heated fronts left and I think we have some
standard clear laminated SE5

I also have a number of heated rears for the 5 and 6 if anyone is interested

Best Regards

Rick

so I'll be onto my insurance company & auto-windscreens this afternoon
