Any owners in Norway.

Post by expat2000 » Thu May 05, 2011 9:51 am

Hi all

New to the forum as have only just bought (but not yet picked up) my 78 Scimitar GTE.

I am in the UK just now but moving to Norway in the summer and driven by the frankly unbelievable import taxes have decided to "go classic" and bought my first classic car (as compared to my usual rusty old sheds that I normally drive)

Anyway just wondering if anyone knows of any owners in Norway or is my GTE going to be the first in the country. Also if anyone has experience of export/import of Scimitars I'd be grateful for any advice. Although Norway is not EU they tend to use the same regulations if they feel they are relevant.

Med venlig hilsen

Stuart

The only off the top of my head is Alf Torp who has (I think) a Coupe and SS1?

I know a few Norwegians with Scimitars. Or with enthusiasm for Scimitars.
It seems Norway is very strict on the Certificate of Conformity. I know Alf Thorp had his SS1 imported through the SVA route.

I have seen Alf Thorp's name using the search facility, I know for non-classics a CoC is a must and did not think that an equivalent for SVA existed in Norway. I think the rules are more relaxed for classics but need to check with the Vegevesen (Norwegian DVLA/DoT).

Does you have contact details for Alf as he would semm like the man to talk to.

Thanks for the info.

Stuart

alftorp@mac.com I'm sure Alf will be happy to hear from you - he has stopped work on his Coupe for the moment - bought a house in need of more important renovation.

also Carl Utengen in Drammen, with the oldst known roadworthy GTE (chassis #0007) - see Slice 223 (front & rear covers and pages 12-14) for a write up - he didn't import the car but I have his email address somewhere.

wot not Top Gear dropping baby grands on them.

much mis-aligned, we came second in a naviagtion rally in an Ital 1800 with the 'O' series, beat most of the boy racers in 'souped' Fiestas / Escorts / Capris etc shame about the braking (lack off) :-) SS1 have more brake material and about two thirds weight

winning a nav rally in an Ital almost certainly had more to do with the co-pilots ability than the car's IMHO :-)

Thanks for all the info so far, I exchanged mails with Alf most of yesterday afternoon and it seems quite a simple and (relatively) cheap process. No worries about having to MOT it immediately or CoC proof due to its age.

Not that anything is really cheap over here but looking like running to around the £6-700 pound mark all in. Much better than over £4k to import my 1996 Rover 200 Vi, eek, or the nearly £9k for my wifes 52 plate Alfa 156.

Thanks again

Stuart

I am assuming that you live in Scotland but work in Norway? or do you have other contacts there?

I've been working there since October and the weekly commute is becoming a real drag, looking forward to moving now in the Summer.

Thanks Jim,, my mate was driving and I wiz co-pilot and I guess it was more down to getting around WITHOUT penelty points than getting round first (we returned to pub middle of the pack IIRC) maybe the slower Escorts took a more scenic route (ie they got lost?) mind you we were still giving it stick
