Hi Jim, thank you for your welcome

I know you’re everywhere Geoff, you’re the scimitar big brother! You’re always well informed!!
I’m living now in Brest, 110 miles from Vannes, not easy to do something for you, I’m not involved in any old car association, I know that there’s some in Brittany and I can give you (or to classicrallytours) some address and phone numbers, I’m sure the classicrallytours guy speak French, (a very easy dialect as everybody know) as he organize events in France, but of course if there’s some understanding problem, of course I will help you.
Just tell me, I will give them a call, and then I will know if they can do something (I’m sure they can)
Regards.

Xavier

welcome Xavier,

I had heard that they were thinking of changing the regulations but didn't know they'd done it yet. Have they also clamped down on cars remaining on UK plates long term?

If you are british in a british car no problems you can run along than you want, for french people in british plates it's an other problem
normaly you have 2 week for register the car in french plates (impossible)
I run 2 years with my se5 in british plates without problems
3 controls afeter : the first time the policeman don't ask anything and say to the other policeman" let's down it's a british it's too difficult to explain "
The second time the policeman want to try the car, the third time customs they want to see the engine.
The biggest problem concern insurance you must keep the british insurance.

Thought I'd better update this topic, the rules have changed a bit (several times).
It is fairly simple for cars over 30 years old, not so easy for other big Scimitars.
SS1's are homologated, other pointy cars are not ... as much help as possible on

Another update, a bit more optimistic this time.

Members have this week registered two 'new' Scimitars, a SE6b and a Middlebridge in Carte Grise NORMALE
with the aid of RSSOC Certificats de Conformité.

These will be available shortly for all models 'old' or 'new' (won't they Jim, Graeme, Steve ...)
Another good reason to join the club!

Keep up to date on http://web.me.com/bolidenoir/scimitarfr ... ation.html

I'm the proud owner of an SE5A also and I'm in the Mayenne actually not far from the town of Mayenne. There is a great car show/autojumble at Javron les Chapelles on Sunday August 4 see http://www.passionautomobile.com/2012/b ... -5766.html
Would be great to meet up with some Scimitar owners there.

Regards

Nick

Well, I have just done my SE6a which is now CY-409-SG. Thanks to the advice on this site, the whole process went through in four weeks, and cost me 50€ for the FFVE certificate(which they got wrong!), then 360€ for the transfer fee (17 CV fiscal), and 40€ for the new plates. I went for Carte Grise Collection, so my Insurance premium is much lower although my insurers will only accept a value of 5000€ without an "expertise". The question is, then, where does one get an "expert" agreed valuation? All the Cabinets D'expertise around here don't seem to have a clue when it comes to a Scimitar. I reckon my SE6a in sparkling condition is worth at least 7,000€ on the French market, or am I dreaming? Incidentally, I have applied for club membership.

Drop our Valuations Officer Kevin Cooper an email - club valuations are (I think) still only £5 which might help sway them? Club Links/Contacts in the box, top right (assuming you're not viewing it on a Mobile device) of the page.

There is a Scimitar-sympathetic valuer on this website:
http://www.retro.fr/expertise_retro-evaluation.php
39 euros, plus photos required. The nice man valued my GTC at 20,000 euros!
