SS1 Type Approval - Import issues

Post by philhoward » Mon May 26, 2008 12:53 am

This a copy of my post in the SS1 section, but made a sticky here for reference..

Following some information which came my way (the only source whom I can acknowledge is Dave Poole) and spurred on by an enquiry from Alf Torp from Norway, I thought the following might be of use to any overseas members trying to import a car where the SS1 was never sold..

I have test results from MIRA (in the UK) where ECE testing was done for the SS1 1300 and 1600, and have conformance notices for the following:

Steering Displacement Tests to ECE12, 74/297/EEC – Passed
Seal Belt Anchorage Test to ECE14.01 & 76/115/EEC – Passed
Seat Back Strength Test to ECE17 & 74/408/EEC – Passed
Dynamic Seat Test to ECE17 & 74/408/EEC - Passed
Door Latch test to ECE11 & 70/387/EEC – Passed
Rear view mirror measurements to 79/795/EEC – Interior and Drivers mirror, pass. Passenger mirror, failed on ground view. Passed overall for type approval as Passenger mirror is an optional requirement for UK type approval. This would probably be OK for a LHD vehicle as it is related to the drivers view… The unit appears to be a Ford Capri unit, so “E” marked units may be available if this proves a problem.
Door Hinge Test to ECE11 & 70/387/EEC – Passed
Emissions Test to 77/102/EEC and 78/665/EEC – Passed
Fuel Consumption figures to 80/1268/EEC are available if needed.

All tests carried out in 1984.

If anyone is trying to import one to an non-EEC country (basically outside Europe), then I do have the actual test figures if the requirements differ in your country.

The 1800Ti was sold in many more countries, hence approval may well be already approved.

I have also have submission documents from Reliant for the K series Scimitar Sabre if anyone needs them in support of a private import - again, EEC/ECE related.

Just as an addition (whilst looking through some documentation for something completely different), the SS1 Type Approval number is:

National Type Approval number 04404T, dated 23rd March 1993

This also clears up the mystery of what "04404T" stands for on the chassis plate!
